EVERY YEAR we extract more material (coal, gas, oil) than the material needed for the ENTIRE energy transition...at massive economic and environmental cost. The cost of the energy transition is discussed all the time. What's often missing is the cost of not doing it.

A clothing tag that reads: “Made in Kharkiv during the war.” Many people don’t realize how hard it is to keep producing goods in these conditions, especially when the enemy wages hybrid war. Russia bombs warehouses and small workshops, and lies that they’re military targets.

As I attended the CoI press conference today in Genf, someone asked me if I’m "happy" that they confirmed my findings. Absolutely NOT. I wish I had been wrong. I wish there had be no genocide still ongoing, 18 months after my report, with neither end nor accountability in sight.
“It is clear there is an intent to destroy the Palestinians in Gaza through acts that meet the criteria set forth in the Genocide Convention.” UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry's report shows #Israel has committed #genocide in #Gaza. https://t.co/UGjepPwmwo

Today, the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry issued its detailed report of findings concluding that the Israeli regime has committed and is continuing to commit genocide in Palestine. There has never been a clearer case of genocide, and never a more complete global consensus

I've lost count of all the Israeli apologists who have queried the Gaza health ministry statistics. But as expected, they were a massive under-count: "'We took the gloves off’: ex-IDF chief confirms Gaza casualties over 200,000" https://t.co/5TrwAfiBb9

Rather than looking on the 1973 oil shock as the aberration, it's the period of cheap oil from c.1950-73 which is the exception. This is a crucial period in world economic and environmental history when petroleum becomes the dominant fuel, effectively 'locked in' thereafter.

New Report by @Ember_energy shows that > 90 % wind and solar projects commissioned worldwide in 2024 produced power more cheaply than the cheapest available fossil-fuel alternative. Bad for planet and Bad for economy to bet on oil, coal & gas

Its vast investment in solar, wind and batteries is on track to end an era of global growth in the use of coal, oil and gas, the researchers said.

Just dropped: @FinancialTimes excellent special report on electrification. I told them: “Overhauling the world’s energy system from fossil fuels is less daunting with electrification's efficiency gains—making the energy transition outlook more optimistic than it seems."

On weekends, these buildings use much less energy. Which means that they export more. Which in turn means the local grid is supplied with renewable energy which reduces our dependency on foriegn imported gas. Solar powered factories are securing our energy independence

Back from a few days in Denmark and the Netherlands meeting European Energy Ministers and finding out about projects delivering clean power, energy security and community ownership. There's much for us to learn from each other but also shared challenges to overcome together. 🧵
