When the Ford government claims it is "is investing for students" and "building a strong Ontario", we urge you to look at the real facts and numbers, not rhetoric. Children deserve better! #onted #onpoli

Trajectories are being changed. ❤️ These impressive Ss have gone from a class where many were at risk for reading failure, to a class of readers & spellers. Just in the new year! Thank goodness for universal screening, #UFLI, and a dream teacher to collaborate with.

Today we recognize the struggle, determination, and victories of generations of women and girls as they fight for a more equal world. Today we stand together. Now we need to work on the other 364 days . . . When women lead amazing things happen. #InternationalWomensDay

Looking forward to sharing an adaptation of the @UFLiteracy Foundations program with FRENCH IMMERSION teachers tomorrow - daily Tier 1 routines that promote the development of phonemic awareness, letter-sound knowledge, decoding & spelling skills, and oral reading fluency.

Working on report cards and wondering when @PeelSchools will add more gender neutral pronouns to the list of replacement characters. We've got only: $ - Preferred name; ## - His/Her; # - his/her; @@ - He/She; @ - he/she

Finishing up our Wonder art pieces. Students designed their own Wonder portraits and then added character traits that would describe them.@TribuneDrive

Dear Canadian Media. I do not give a crap about Prince Harry and the latest so-called ‘bombshell’ from his memoir. There is a lot of stuff happening on our planet right now. Stop being a gossip rag and report on what really matters.

Please note that "orthographic mapping" & "word memorization" are not the same. Engaging in activities that promote orthographic mapping along with repeated exposure is what leads to memorizing words the way effective readers do when they read.

Bravo to ON boards who are moving forward with structured literacy to meet the human rights of students. “We are not waiting for additional direction from the ministry. We are charging forward into this.” @eric_hardie @UCDSB 👏

If you easily dismiss stories of kids being failed by systematic ineffective reading instruction & continuously elevate stories of success, you might have forgotten your purpose. As teachers, we need to ensure that EVERY kid learns to read, not just the ones that do it easily.

Reading takes practice. Practice should be with material that has been learned. As adults, colorful pictures and more interesting topics may feel right when giving kids books, but it is not about adults. Children need to practice their learned skills with decodable books. #SoR
