Until the idea that all reading data represents a child and their future gets settled deep within the soul of everyone who makes decisions around reading instruction we will not have the urge to stop going with the flow. Why? Because until you have that knowledge settled within

As teachers prepare for back to school, now is the perfect time to brush up on ONE of the many strands of the reading process! I have updated my Reading Rope of Resources to align with each strand of Scarborough’s Reading Rope (2001), acting as a visual reminder that there is

This! I love the concept of a hinge question on a MWB. I’ll be using this strategy as I work on being more intentional about assessment FOR, not of learning. @XpatEducator teaching one pagers are such an efficient way to learn about and incorporate evidence-based practices. 👏

@mattw009 I did write my takeaways in the blog. But some key points. -SRSD is likely the most evidence based writing pedagogy -Spelling is incredibly important but should be taught via orthography not memorization -Both typing and handwriting instruction is effective, but they likely

Who says retrieval practice is boring!?! Make it competitive and collaborative. Students will eat it up like in this “Notecard Retrieval Chain” where they had to retrieve three causes, effects, and solutions for deforestation in the Amazon with each student adding one new detail.

With only 15 minutes per group, per day, I need high-yield, evidence-based strategies to ensure my Ss get the most from their Tier2 instructional time. #SOSSpelling is a strategy that does this: segmenting, encoding, printing, decoding. Effective for MLL, too! @RideauPS_LDSB #SoR

Students learn faster when they see what something is and what it isn’t. One of the most important aspect of curriculum planning + instructional design is effectively using examples and non-examples. 🧵⬇️
