What a horrible mess @KemiBadenoch got into on @itvpeston tonight. Everyone who knows anything about power prices KNOWS that the system of marginal pricing pegs UK electricity costs to the international GAS price but despite all the evidence she couldn’t accept that.🤦🏼

If the UK is to renew its nuclear deterrent, we should seriously consider joining with France so that we are no longer reliant on the USA, which has become an unreliable ally.

Macron "Our nuclear deterrent is self-sufficient, French from start to finish. Ever since 1964 it has helped keep Europe safe and peaceful. However, after Merz's historic call, I have decided to open up discussion on using it to protect our allies throughout Europe"👇 My Eng s/t

Disappointing to hear the PM referring to the ‘UK/US special relationship’ this morning. Such as it might ever have existed, it certainly has not done so for many decades. We delude and debase ourselves by pretending that the big kid in the playground is our mate. He is not.

4m hours of raw sewage dumped in rivers/seas in England in 2023. Puny penalties - 129% increase in total discharges on previous 12 months. Companies fraudulently charge customers to boost profits, pay dividends, hike exec pay, with OFWAT/Govt approval. https://t.co/5ui7Yqfu4v

So there we have it. Over the last 5 years WCs have spent 13,618,860 hours, on 1,833,919 occasions dumping sewage into our rivers. WCs blame the rain, the regulators, customers and each other. Govt has lost control of the water industry and WCs couldn't have a flying hoot!

Shift in Water companies position today. Now accepting there’s a problem. Admitting they’ve caused it via inadequate infrastructure. Pushing for more investment so they can fix it. So they can put bills up. @Feargal_Sharkey explains why that’s cobblers. https://t.co/nuLUH3D40e

If anyone ever tells you something is going to cost between £150 billion and £650 billion, that's a half a TRILLION pound variation on a £650 billion budget, what they've actually told you is they've absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

Listen to what the British Dental Association has to say about the Government’s supposed Dentistry Recovery Plan. ‘Too little, too late,’ ‘dishonest’, ‘inadequate’, ‘rubbish’, ‘a joke’. ‘The plan was not designed to rescue NHS dentistry but to limit political damage’.

Says it all. Dentistry has become unaffordable for too many people. Radical change is needed.

Chancellor announces borrowing falling over next five years to just 1.2% of GDP. Take this with a pinch of salt. Will depend on implementing extremely tight spending plans which will imply cuts for many public services.

Seriously people - look at what's happening in terms of GDP/capita (which is what ultimately matters for our living standards). This is a proper recession just being hidden by having more people - GDP/capita declined 0.7 per cent in 2023 with falls in every single quarter

Good to talk to you today, @mrjamesob. If you’re ever in Devon give me a shout and I’ll get the CFI at Devon & Somerset Gliding Club to take you up for a spin. It’s a fascinating experience. This is the record that I mentioned; 713km!

#BrexitDisaster Despite record Non-EU immigration many sectors like hospitality still have serious labour shortages because posts were previously filled by young & flexible EU workers who could come & also return &/or visit their home country easily.
