My TEDx talk finally landed on YouTube. The format doesn’t allow for the usual academic caveats and details but maybe that’s a good thing. Such concerns aside, my dad would have wanted me to tell his dad’s story and posting from Italy adds to that:

The new government can change the way politics is done in Australia. @AriadneVromen presents 4 ways for change and draws on our recent C2P town hall meetings in @UniCanberra @DelDemUCan. @MichaelNeblo @connecting2cong @paddynixon

It was an honor for IDEA's director @MichaelNeblo to testify before @ModernizeCmte on ways to make town halls and other forums more deliberative and representative.
Today the Modernization Committee held a roundtable discussion with experts on civic engagement to explore opportunities to make it easier for every American to engage with the Legislative Branch.

The development of theories of citizens’ political communication has been hindered by a debate over whether such communication is best characterized as deliberative or non-deliberative. This article...

@MichaelNeblo and I wrote that it seemed that this moment of opportunity had already passed, with neither China nor the US seizing it. The delta and omicron waves upended our timeline of the pandemic but perhaps not its conclusion. 6/

In a @UPI article from late December, Professor @MichaelNeblo of @osupolisci spoke how vaccine opposition is largely a result of conflict between government restrictions and populism.

Great to hear from you Taleed! Not published yet, but we’ve found similar patterns in our DTHs (Deliberative Town Halls) on COVID policy: deliberation depolarizes both on the issues discussed and background partisan affective polarization. Better before issues crystallize though.
Cc: @MichaelNeblo (one such expert)! Would love to hear his thoughts.

Expertise and deliberative democratic theory: such a powerful reminder of what reorientations to #policymaking processes can do for legitimization in the eyes of a distrusting public. We're connecting the beginning of the semester with Habermas via @MichaelNeblo and @jerometenk.
Readings for this week's grad seminar on dialogue and deliberation theory focus on the issue of expertise. I'm excited for students to be reading Susan Clark & Woden Teachout, @RadioFreeTom, @leah_sprain & Lydia Reinig, Colene Lind, @MichaelNeblo & @jerometenk, and Mark Warren.
