Declines of this magnitude don’t occur by chance or good luck. We have a long way to fully understand all of the drivers, but Jeff Asher’s & John Roman’s data-informed musings are excellent starting points. Some key policies implemented in 2022-2024 are being reversed.
Homicides are down 21% year-to-date in 2025 across the top 30 cities, following national declines of 12% in 2023 and 15% in 2024. If this trend holds, the U.S. could see the fewest murders in over 50 years and the lowest per capita homicide rate ever recorded.

Love this. Public health science applied to the prevention of crime and violence at the population level for lasting impacts.
Most of the Jubilee “Surrounded” videos are frustrating to get through for me. The Pete Buttigieg episode is their best so far. The voters are challenging him and the conversation is substantial. This is a clip from the discussion on lowering crime rates.

C’mon! That’s data from 14 ABs over 19 ABs vs Lefties, Freeman had .250 BA, .759 OPS over 192 ABs in 2024. Betts was .308 BA, .853 OPS over 143 ABs. Considering Freeman had 1 XBH over the past month, Boone did what any good manger would have done. Players decided this one.
