It’s been a long journey, and I’m incredibly honored by the trust the voters have placed in me. This was a very close election and I am proud to be elected as Oakland’s next Mayor.🧵
I won’t stop fighting to keep the A’s rooted in Oakland—even if it means taking a swing and flying to Seattle! We are still ready to play ball to ensure the

I am inspired by the dedication of Oakland A's fans. They've organized for weeks to make this happen and it shows just how strong our city is connected to this team. The A's truly belong in Oakland.

We stand united with Barbara Lee! If the MLB is sincere in its goals of becoming a sport of choice for a diverse and growing fan base, there is no better place than The Town, one of the most diverse cities in the nation. Let’s keep the A’s rooted in Oakland!

Oakland has the best fans in the world and today was the perfect day to celebrate with them at Oakland Fans Fest. Thousands of attendees poured into beautiful Jack London Square to celebrate Oakland’s long history of professional sports and to rally behind that history.

Oakland offered a deal that was fair to the A’s and was fiscally responsible for our city. We wish the A’s the best and will continue our conversations with them on facilitating the sale of their share of the Coliseum site. The City of Oakland will now focus on advancing…

There was a thought that this plan he had in the beginning was viable. And now we’re seeing that actually, maybe the plan isn’t viable. The question becomes, are the plans not viable or is it that the ownership’s not viable?
I am eternally grateful to my family, my clan, and the Hmong people all across the United States for their support and love. We have come so far and that is because we stayed strong and worked together to uplift one another.

Oakland is thrilled to welcome 560 new housing units, including nearly 200 units designated as affordable housing, alongside a fresh wave of commercial development at the Lake Merritt BART station. This transformative project will not only attract hundreds of new residents but…
We are disappointed by the outcome of this vote. I have made it clear the A’s branding & name should stay in Oakland. Baseball has a home in the Town even if the A’s ownership relocates.
It was such an honor to meet Mayor
@wutrain

A very happy birthday to Oakland's own Kamala Harris. As the nation's first Black, Southeast Asian, and female Vice President you inspire so many of us every single day. I hope you have the happiest of birthdays!
I’m very excited to get to work as Mayor in January, but I’m also very humbled to be here. 15 years ago, I was living in my car with my baby. I’ve been through a lot to get to this moment, and have had so many people lift me up in order to get here. 5/13

Tyre Nichols should be with us today. It is wrong and horrifying that this young man was killed. It hurts me to know Tyre's family had to see a video of their son and loved one being brutally beaten and will likely see it again in the days ahead. I cannot imagine their pain. 1/3
I also want all Oaklanders who voted for another candidate to know I will do everything I can to earn your trust. I will be a Mayor for all of Oakland. 3/13
I want to congratulate Loren Taylor on the strong campaign he ran. He and his family have been making a difference for this city for generations and we owe him a real debt of gratitude. 2/13
Chief Armstrong has my respect and appreciation for his service to the Department and to the City.
But I am no longer confident that Chief Armstrong can do the work needed to continue much needed reforms. My full statement here.
We will bring a Green New Deal to Oakland, to put our people to work and protect our environment. We’ll build a more responsive city government, one that returns our calls in a timely manner and focuses like a laser on keeping our streets clean, safe, and vibrant. 12/13
Public safety is pedestrian, bike, and transit safety too. This is why I voted in favor of permanent protected bike lanes on Telegraph Avenue. Everyone should feel safe on our streets no matter how they get around.
It is my belief that we do not have to continue to do things the way they’ve always been done and under my Administration we’re not going to. Oaklanders deserve better.
On Day One, we will begin putting in place the comprehensive public safety plan we laid out during the campaign. That involves doubling down on the violence prevention programs that we know reduce violent crime, addressing root causes of crime by working to create more jobs…7/13
The City Council unanimously passed a resolution reaffirming the Town’s commitment to our

I am outraged by the images I saw in a video captured during an illegal sideshow that took place on Sunday, and demand that the perpetrators of this senseless act of violence be held accountable. 🧵
I have never felt more hopeful about Oakland’s future, or more determined to lead the fight for it. I’m excited to get to work building the safer, more affordable, more just Oakland we know is possible in the months and years ahead. 13/13
I am so grateful to the Biden Administration for funding the first phase of the East Bay Greenway project, which will bring over 10 miles of bike and pedestrian safety and connectivity to East Oakland.

Our homeless crisis is a top priority, and one that will require strong state & federal partnership.
This is why I sent the following letter to

Taking a moment 2 uplift Sunisa Lee a 16yr trailblazer making history as FIRST Hmong American gymnast for Team USA. ❤️❤️🙌🏼🌟
As a Hmong woman, I grew up w/ barriers & stigma 4 young girls participating in dance, extra curricular activities, let alone gym. So proud of Sunisa.
As we get to work, I’m going to focus on the top priorities which we spelled out in the campaign, which I know are also the priorities of Oaklanders. 6/13
So happy to welcome Philz to their permanent home right here in the Town. It's not just about coffee; it's about community, and we're honored that a major local favorite has chosen Oakland as their home. Welcome to the Oakland family, Philz Coffee!

Oakland’s diversity is its strength and our LGBTQ+ community is an irreplaceable part of that strength. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
Seattle joins Oakland in declaring itself a sanctuary city for abortion access. Huge congratulations to City Councilmember
@cmkshama
for your leadership on this issue. Local electeds have a lot of power when it comes to protecting pivotal healthcare like abortion.
City Council will soon vote on my bill to make Seattle an Abortion Sanctuary, so police don't enforce anti-abortion arrest warrants from other states
If half the states refuse to extradite for anti-abortion laws in the other half, the laws will be extremely difficult to enforce
Spent the week at my first ever US Conference of Mayors, where we work and collaborate with other Mayors across the nation to tackle some of our nation’s biggest issues. I had an amazing time learning from my peers and advocating for more federal resources for Oakland.
Like many other candidates, I was given the incorrect filing date for my filing and had to turn in my required paperwork at the last minute in order to qualify. I am deeply troubled that this same thing happened to other candidates who could not make it onto the ballot in time.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of joining Port and elected officials to announce a $119 million state grant to help with modernization and green redevelopment. This investment will go a long way into making the port greener, safer, and help reduce noise and traffic.
Had a blast throwing the first pitch today. Maybe with a little practice I can be Oakland’s first professional baseball playing Mayor. 😉
Thank you to Oakland’s
