Lake Merritt Update: Crews completed a second 10-hour day removing dead fish from the lake shoreline & the largest contributor to the nuisance & odor has been removed. Work will transition Friday to removing floating material from the surface of the lake.

This evening just after 5:30pm, a fire was reported at Schnitzer Steel at the Port of Oakland. The Oakland Fire Department's four-person engine company from station 2 was first on scene and almost immediately was able to downgrade the fire to a single engine response.
