@LeahMcGrathRD @maie_lynn @DrAricSudicky @CakeNutrition @SPalmeri_RD We need to make the difference between nutrition (= the science) and the act of eating (=personal, cultural, etc.). Someone's eating habits might not work for everyone, but the science of nutrition remains the same. cc @MN_Dietetiste

It is becoming increasingly difficult to justify going to academic conferences charging >$1,000 in registration fees and $250-300 a night to stay. I would spend far less than that on a vacation. As a field, we really need to think about the sustainability of what we are doing.

It is possible to challenge students without traumatizing them. It is possible for a course to be “hard” and also flexible, accessible, joyful, supportive, not arbitrary or cruel, student-centered, etc.

I wish more folks understood that people don't fake anxiety and depression. They fake being okay.

Something I dislike about academia is how often we receive anonymous feedback from people who don't care about how it makes us feel. Students, peer reviewers, grant funding bodies... Difficult to stay focused on your own work when others determine the trajectory of your career.

When speaking publicly about Truth and Reconciliation I am often asked “Can you suggest one thing I can do for Reconciliation?” I never have a ready answer for this, so on this #NationalDayForTruthAndReconciliation, here is a list of simple things you can do: a thread…

No immigrant has taken your job. You were laid off by a capitalist who required cheap labor and took advantage of that immigrant to increase his profits, and nothing makes him happier than to hear you blame the immigrant and not him.

Over half of food insecure households in Canada are in the workforce (~52%). In other words, wages and incomes are not enough to enable people to feed themselves. @proofcanada @FoodSecureCAN

Are the kids these days "too sensitive" or have we been raising them with the emotional vocabulary and space to express themselves that you never had?

Non-Indigenous people: please remember that September 30th isn’t a day of celebration or joy for us. For many of us, it’s a day that reminds us of loss and is a day of mourning and remembrance. Please remember this when smiling with your friends for a pic in your orange shirts.

Sorry for my delayed response I was busy breaking generational cycles, surviving a global pandemic, watching the fall of America and trying to stay on top of laundry

Canadians really embraced Orange Shirt Day because it offers them moral absolution for the low price of $20, the cost of a London Drugs t-shirt that they wear once a year. We have turned the traumatic legacy of residential schools into another retail holiday.
