When I was 15 our modern studies teacher post this exact argument and asked us to consider why it might not hold up. The class of 15 years olds managed to figure out that "one perception may be more valid than another" but I guess incisive satirist Jonathan Pie can't
People on the Left often complain about the BBC being too right wing, while people on the Right accuse it of left wing bias. Now, to me that says it must be fairly balanced. Has it fucked up a few times? Yes. What media outlet hasn't? Should it be destroyed because of this? I

Some staggering doublethink/hypocrisy from well known radical right accounts on here 1) Turns out words do hurt and matter after all- many spent years telling us they didn’t and free speech should be absolute/ spent months defending Lucy Connolly for literally inciting

New paper from Citizens Advice on how to deliver tangible growth - which puts money in people’s pockets - in consumer markets. TLDR: Consumer confidence is key & slashing hard won consumer protections without adequate safeguards isn’t the answer. https://t.co/HNiYuTkJke

UK households need tangible economic growth which puts money in their pocket. Consumer confidence is critical - cutting consumer protection is not the answer

Personal insolvency in England and Wales is a patched-up 1980s system struggling to deal with 2020s debt problems. It is complex, fragmented and inconsistent. The ongoing @insolvencygovuk review is an opportunity for big structural changes, which are much needed.

📚 Citizens Advice evidence and our extensive work on council tax over the years shows that urgent reform is needed to prevent hardship and make the system work for people, not against them.

📢 Very pleased to see the government's new consultation on council tax administration. This is only the start of a process - but a a big opportunity to make council tax collection fairer and bring it into line with other types of debt collection.

Good to hear that there are plans to consult on council tax debt collection. Council Tax is one of the most common debts we help people with, and the current debt collection practices leave people exposed to huge harm - from spiralling debts, to heavy-handed recovery practices
'What type of consultation will it be and when will it be put out?' Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Pat McFadden MP confirms that the government is consulting on changing the rules around council tax debt collection. @MartinSLewis | @susannareid100

New report out today from my colleague @IndiaWalden1 highlighting the trends Citizens Advice is seeing in debt advice.
We’re helping more people than ever with debt. Debt levels are growing too and cases are becoming more complex and harder to resolve. Interventions that support recovery and help households withstand financial shocks are needed. Read more in our report: https://t.co/NwAHveRif2

If you want the best price for mobile or broadband you have to ring up and haggle - but not everyone is as confident or able to do this. It's time for a rethink about how this works. Our report today hopes to get this conversation started - get involved! https://t.co/GksigOpngN

This report looks at ‘hidden deals’ in the telco market - lower prices obtained via haggling. Our findings show access to these deals is unequal, with barriers and sludge in the consumer journey...
We worked with @mmhpi to survey people with lived experience of mental health problems. We found that although 3 in 4 people surveyed tried to haggle, the majority (85%) found that their symptoms made this hard.

The number of people we help with debt issues reached record levels in January this year. With debt becoming so varied and lenders having different priorities and collection practices, managing and giving advice on debt is much more complex ⤵️
