📢 strong voices & agency for young people in our democracy & responsive government, acting on their priorities. This includes votes at 16 and better citizenship/politics education to build lifelong democratic habits. Handily - that's also in the news.

The long-term health of our democracy, our society, and our economy demands that we address this. We argue for:.🧒 better baselines for young northerners, including health & education.☀️ access to a good life for young people, including fairer investment in culture & green space.

Whether growing up in poverty, unequal school funding, library closures, or access to green space - young northeners have been short changed. And they're rightly unhappy about it - with low satisfaction with democracy and its ability to deliver for them.

Take culture for example - with our analysis covered in today's @NorthernAgenda_ - where a £450 million chasm in culture spending translates into fewer opportunities for our young people to access culture and the consequences of this for their lives.

Here in the UK, that power lies firmly with central government. For every £1 we pay in tax, 96p passes local leaders by and goes straight to the Treasury.

Those findings are:.1. The green book has not emphasised place-based objectives enough.2. It's innefective at assessing transformational change.3. It overemphasises cost-benefit ratios in decision making.4. It's overly long and complicated.

We're pleased to see many of our concerns reflected in the review - alongside so many of our friends and partners. And the six key findings could herald a boost to getting regional investment projects over the line.

For too long, Treasury undervalued places' potential. This is a challenge for a govt wanting deliver growth, security & renewal in all parts of the country. Today's green book review signals a good shift in approach, reflecting @IPPRNorth contribution.
