It's time for this week's Bands on the Run. I'm loving these two Scouse bands at the minute. One had a number one debut album, and the other has just released a cracking song about my beloved Walton. Great weekend listening: 🎤 [The Farm - Feel The Love] 🎸 [The Cheap Thrills

I’ve always said our city region deserves a transport network worthy of the 21st century, and this is how we’re delivering it. New train stations, rapid transit, smart ticketing, better buses, safer roads… all £1.6bn of it. Time to crack on. 💪
🚨Our £1.6bn transport upgrade is the biggest in our region’s history 🚉 New stations, rapid transit, smart ticketing, safer roads and better walking & cycling links 🚲 All designed to connect communities and power new jobs, homes and growth across the city region 🌍🏗️

Liverpool’s waterfront is one of our country’s greatest assets, but huge parts of the North Docks need a revival. With these powers, we can unlock one of the UK’s biggest brownfield sites - creating thousands of homes, decent jobs and a real community. Excited to get to work!

Today could - and should - have been a watershed moment for the 97 and their families. A moment when, finally, some of those responsible were confronted with the truth they've spent decades avoiding. Instead, it feels like another missed opportunity. After a 13-year

For this week's Bands on the Run, I've been listening to two eclectic local groups with very different vibes. One formed back in the '70s, and the other almost four decades later, these both had brilliant debut albums. When you've got a minute, have a listen to these: 🎤 [She

I gave evidence to the Hillsborough Law Bill Committee today – not only as Metro Mayor, but as someone shaped by the injustice of Hillsborough. The 97 were unlawfully killed. But what came after – the lies, the cover-ups, the decades-long fight for truth – that was a second

The levy on overnight stays is a transformational moment for UK cities. This pro-growth, pro-business policy proves what can be achieved when a Labour government and Labour mayors work together. My take in @NewStatesman 👇 https://t.co/y5IPzprx84

🚀 Exciting things happening at Starship! Steve recently dropped in to hear how their innovative approach to housebuilding is delivering greener, smarter, zero-bills homes. He spoke with CEO Dave Dargan about how this could support meeting the City Region’s housing targets. 🏠

The government has confirmed new powers for mayors to introduce a modest overnight accommodation levy. It has the potential to bring in millions of pounds to the City Region, which will be used to support transport, infrastructure and our £6.25 billion visitor economy 🏨🛏️

You can’t be serious about growth unless you’re serious about ending child poverty. The last Labour government did it - and now we’re doing it again. Around 40,000 children in our area are affected by this cap, which is why I’ve pushed for change. Well done @RachelReevesMP 👍
Labour is taking action so we can lift the largest number of children out of poverty in a single Parliamentary term.

This budget shows a willingness to roll up sleeves and address the tough economic circumstances our country faces. Now we’ve got the opportunity to be part of something bigger: rebuilding not just our local economy, but a fairer, strong country built from the bottom up.

I’ve been calling for this since 2017. Cities like ours deserve the same tools as places like Barcelona and Paris to reinvest in our visitor economy, and a modest levy could raise up to £17m a year. It’s only fair that those who enjoy our region help to sustain it.
