It’s time to break the cycle of regional inequality holding back the next generation of northerners. They deserve:. 👉 A better baseline.👉 The opportunity to live a good life.👉 And a stronger democratic voice, including through votes at 16

Young northerners are born into an unacceptable baseline:. ➡️ 1M are in poverty.➡️ They wait up to 10x longer for talking therapies.➡️ They receive 10% less school funding & have worse outcomes.➡️ They access smaller green spaces.➡️ They were hit hardest by library closures.

Responsibility and funding for arts and culture should be handed over to mayors so that local leaders can deliver opportunities for locals, including young people 🎭 . But there’s even more to this story than arts and culture alone 📖.

In the latest funding round, between 2023 & early 2025, Arts Council funding was:. 👉 £28 pp in the North.👉 £57 pp in London. If the North were funded at the same rate, it would have received £450 million more. That’s equivalent to 10 Bradford City of Cultures every 3 years 👀.
