This is the core issue: our system can hand full power to a party that most voters didnโt choose. That makes politics feel like damage control instead of representation. Appreciate @avilewis naming that clearly with @atRachelGilmore.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said Thursday January 22, 2026 that Canada is at a moment in history where โour values must be fought forโ as a country based on inclusion, while setting an example to the rest of the world at a time of โdemocratic decline.โ Now is the moment in

Carney laid out his agenda for the coming year while charting Canada's history of cultures learning to live together and build a collective national identity.

No wonder we keep getting governments that most of the public want gone. "Only a fifth of the eligible electorate actually voted for the current majority government." Under First Past the Post, that's enough for a "landslide". @robfordmancs for @UKandEU ๐

@AndrewCFollett Both parties will do this because we use a winner-take-all voting system with single-member districts to elect the US House. If Congress passes reforms like the Fair Representation Act (HR 4632), introducing a proportional voting system, votes earned will match seats won.

I'm here from the future...and it turns out this was a total lie. Virginia Democrats broke the State Constitution to gerrymander Virginia so that they get 91% of the House seats with just 51% of the vote!
This is good news for Virginia and the country. Gerrymandering is detrimental to our democracy and it weakens the individual voices that form our electorates. Opposing gerrymandering should be a bipartisan priority.

BCโs own Electoral Reform Committee recommended a Citizensโ Assembly. That is a serious democratic process that deserves action, not delay. If you want a voting system where results actually reflect voters, now is the moment to speak up.

If Mark Carney truly believes we need to protect Canada from foreign influence & demagogues he would be pushing for proportional representation. FPTP makes Canadian governance less cooperative, less diverse & less secure against foreign influence. @FairVoteCanada

Canadians are clear about the kind of partners they trust internationally. Countries that use proportional representation deliver stability, cooperation, and accountability. If we value those qualities abroad, we should expect them at home too.
