Pursuing this thought: @TheJockeyClub have kept quiet on this option for SEVEN YEARS whilst the little people have tried to make positive plans for a sport they believed definitely still involved Kempton. The question has to be: why break this silence now? What's about to happen?
This is the news, the most shocking element. Despite the outrage then generated among racing professionals & the sport's fans - and warnings about how it would fatally undermine Jump racing - @TheJockeyClub did this anyway. That's how much they listened:

Not had time to read this yet, but I will and comment/discuss with @mindmodeller then. 👇
The Jockey Club’s silence wasn’t apathy. It was strategy. And the sound you hear now isn’t the sport fighting for its life—it’s the quiet professionalism of an industry being shrunk to fit a spreadsheet. https://t.co/g8tAJImjhz

Quite astonishing that the terms of the deal were not made public at the time. And I’m not sure that such a private agreement is in accordance with the terms of their Royal Charter either. How is this in any way for the “long-term good and sustainability of British horse racing?”

The answer to "why break the silence now" is surely "rolling the pitch". As for the substance of the matter, sadly I find it unsurprising .

Credit where it is due @jkeene124 had this @TheJockeyClub story about Kempton in June. Yet another reason why he was rightly voted @HorseraceMedia Reporter Of The Year!

@LydiaHislop @TheJockeyClub 💯 Lydia. The King George is one of the greatest races in the whole calendar. If we don’t want 4 days in March to be the only things that count we need to nurture and support races like the King George and tracks like Kempton.

Sorry, according to Jim Mullen’s quotes in the Racing Post, I should have stressed here. I will be seeking more detail on the small print of this.
@BROWNLOWJ74 @jonnytwo1 @TheJockeyClub But it’s currently beyond the sport’s control - it’s in the hands of the local authority and the potential builders.

@RacingPost What Mullen now confirms is that in 2018—whilst the public controversy continued—the Jockey Club negotiated and transferred to Redrow an option to develop the site. The racecourse's fate therefore rests not with racing's largest track owner, but with a property developer holding

Inexcusable ignorance by @TheJockeyClub in 2017 of Kempton's lynchpin role for British Jump racing, providing viable ground for top-class domestic horses at Christmas, risks fatally undermining their successors' investment in the very Festivals it supplies https://t.co/Wm8yidDRUh
