The biggest travesty was turning Kempton into an all weather track. I remember midweek summer evening meetings at Kempton, Sandown & Epsom that had over double those attendance figures under United Racecourse banner, with some popular days attracting well over 10,000.
THERE is no evidence Kempton is loved by the public these days (why is another matter). Want to know Kempton's biggest attendance in 2025? 3,779 on May 5th - £5 entry in advance The old Racing Post Chase meeting, which was always heaving from memory in the 90s, on Feb 22 got

What was in 'the best interests of racing" was for The Jockey Club to have taken Kempton seriously in the past 25 years - a racecourse located in Greater London that has a train station right by it. To see what Invades has achieved in a short space of time - getting thousands

Quite astonishing that the terms of the deal were not made public at the time. And I’m not sure that such a private agreement is in accordance with the terms of their Royal Charter either. How is this in any way for the “long-term good and sustainability of British horse racing?”
Pursuing this thought: @TheJockeyClub have kept quiet on this option for SEVEN YEARS whilst the little people have tried to make positive plans for a sport they believed definitely still involved Kempton. The question has to be: why break this silence now? What's about to happen?

🔥 Emma Duncan’s column isone of the cleanest, least ideological admissions yet of what Brexit has done and why the argument is effectively over, even if politics hasn’t caught up. The key point is not that economists agree on every detail. It’s that they no longer disagree on

The absolute gall of this man, who has spent the last two weeks calling all those that accuse him of racism and anti-semitism liars. Jewish people can see you Farage and know exactly who you are. No attempt at deflection will change that.
If @Keir_Starmer was really concerned with the hatred and violence against Jewish people, he would ban the Muslim Brotherhood.

"NEVER TRUST THE TORIES", says former Tory member and Head of Policy for Reform UK—a party where 100% of its MPs were Tory Party members, 67% of its councillors are ex-Tories, and to which, 22 former Tory MPs have now defected. Absolute clown show. 🤡 Vote Reform, get Tory2.0

Fraser Nelson is the latest Farage apologist to dismiss the racism allegations against him, saying that there's never been any evidence of him ever being racist as an adult. Just completely untrue. There is extensive undeniable evidence of it

So cash strapped JCR, who have had to raise the £6 million investment for the Derby, are now expected to be in the running to buy ARC? How on earth is that going to work? There’s no way they could raise the £350m+ capital required. Cloud cuckoo land stuff.
🗣️ "At this stage it is thought there has been little more than early internal conversations about a future vision for a Jockey Club that could include the likes of Doncaster, Chepstow and, perhaps crucially, Arc's all-weather sites. "That said, although organisations often

“The Jockey Club's primary mandate is to act for the long-term good and sustainability of British horseracing. Unlike a typical commercial business, it is governed by a Royal Charter and reinvests all profits back into the sport rather than paying shareholders.”
Inexcusable ignorance by @TheJockeyClub in 2017 of Kempton's lynchpin role for British Jump racing, providing viable ground for top-class domestic horses at Christmas, risks fatally undermining their successors' investment in the very Festivals it supplies https://t.co/Wm8yidDRUh

This is how to listen to feedback and put the customer experience at the heart of your development strategy. Very impressed with all of these innovations & initiatives. I’m really looking forward to a revitalised Derby meeting next year at Epsom, thanks to Jim, Andrew & the team.
Exciting changes are coming to Epsom for the 2026 @Betfred Derby Festival, with new facilities, free parking and increased prize money all set to elevate the raceday experience 🙌🏼 Discover what’s new in the full video, or visit https://t.co/OseqEvGnxK

I knew Jim Allen was the right man for the job to revitalise the Derby Festival. He is a racing man through and through, and just gets it. These are all brilliant initiatives, especially free parking & free entry for U18s. I wish him the very best of luck. Epsom is in safe hands.
Key changes for the 2026 Derby festival: ∙ Betfred Derby purse increased to £2 million (from £1.5m) with prize-money extended to the first ten horses home (from the first six) ∙ Coronation Cup prize-money boosted to £1 million (from £450,000), moved to Saturday and sponsored

The exchanges no longer have any liquidity. Just to keep up with inflation with no growth from 2005 they should be matching £2m a race. Lucky to be 1/10th that now. The Tote is not big enough to absorb big bets. Clued up punters have no option except on course now. There is no
@DizzyJB It’s not spot on. Those informed punters do have options with tote and exchange. The question is what is the value to racing? The blunt reality is they extract money from racing not contribute, so there needs to be a proper discussion that acknowledges this as well

I’ve advocated for this for a long while. Has to be the way forward. Tracks can still segment their audience horizontally (private boxes, restaurants etc.) but not vertically at ground level. Let everyone experience the action close up, from the paddock to the winning post.
Absolutely superb decision from @NewmarketRace to go all one enclosure for every meeting except the Guineas for next year. Spot on and gold stars for this decision. No dress code either and everyone welcome. Taking racing forward in the 21st century.
