This Stop Motion puppet is still a WIP (and will maybe remain forever WIP), but decided to take it for a one hour and a half ride. No direct ref, and clearly no arcs tracked 🥲. Armature parts and head sculpt from

Took my new shiny stop motion armature for a test drive this weekend. The armature was beautifully crafted by

Hello
#PortfolioDay
: ). Here's my
#GodzillaVsKong
Animation Reel! All keyframe animation, responsible for all the creatures in this reel and main hard surface vehicles, supervised by Mike Langford.
Dream job ♥️
Me, without my computer for a few days: I guess it's time to rest and not animate for a bit!
Also me: I should try stop motion.
"Another?"
Half rig mod from

. The rest is cheap wire, cheaper foam and clay 😊. App: Stop Motion Studio. 12fps
I'm really stoked about the new Ultraman movie from Netflix! I did this personal anim test, inspired by Ultraman, while working on King of the Monsters back in 2019 (because apparently a full time job animating kaijus was not enough)
Cool mechanical rig creature by

All CG, responsible for the animation! Horse and BG characters had a base cycle that I mod for the shot. I really had fun animating the rider getting up on the horse (all keyframe, inspired by Zorro 😌) and the main Noti!
Thank you for all the love this shot is getting in the past 3 yrs! If anyone is curious, my first inspiration were my two cats. The idea was to make a simple sleepy roll. I searched for more reference and when I found this video I couldn't resist adding the down the slope roll.
I actually animated that thinking about the next Jurassic World installment, after watching Battle at Big Rock. Nope, I'm not involved in the movie (I wish), but it was a fun "what if" animation exercise : ).
When I saw Godzilla 2014, back then I was just one year into my career as an Animator. I bought this 2014 NECA Godzilla to place on my desk to remind me the distant goal (I was in Brazil) to work on a Godzilla movie someday. Today I saw the second one I've worked on. ♥️

Happy one year, Andor! To celebrate, here's my Animation Reel from my short (and amazing) time on the show. A big thank you to all involved. It was my first show at ILM, and I couldn't have asked for a better crew to work with.
Hopefully this is not a spoiler anymore. I got to animate the second shot in this video and big chunk of the KX shots in this sequence: from the KX walking and a person being thrown away in the foreground up till the hand shot when KX pins Andor to the wall. All keyframe 🤖
@seaguns_art
I'm glad you liked this one! When I did my first pass suggesting the shake and the snort I was not sure if the director was going to dig it, but fortunately he did : )
@Chris_G_Art
Heya thanks! Believe me, we all gasped when we saw that Godzilla would have to go on all fours haha. All credit goes to the Animator Bin Yu who made this happen!
@DMan1954Gojira
Oh man, that's the AR 3D animation you get when you google "Godzilla" and I animated that lol. Fun to see it in the wild, it was such a quick job 😅
@EDGEinthewild
@AnimationToolkt
The armature parts and the head sculpt were from a stop motion shop. The rest is pretty much a bunch of different foams plus some liquid latex on top of it on hands and bottom legs
Ever wonder what happens when you upset a KX enforcer droid? For your consideration in all categories, including Best Special Visual Effects in a Season, and Best Drama.

When I was given this sequence to animate, at first I had to figure it out how Godzilla would eat Ghidora's head. I remember I had too much fun: Godzilla's mouth full open and we were seeing only Ghidorah's muzzle down his throat 😄 (the spikes were a nightmare to fit in though)
I wanted Godzilla to devour Ghidorah as the ultimate defeat and punishment for his rival, but it was Toho's idea to have him "barbecue" the final head.

Yeah!! As a Godzilla fan, it was an absolutely blast to be one of the creature animators. First time I opened the Godzilla rig I had to take a deep breath 😅
@DMan1954Gojira
Haha yeah! A while after GVK we got a task to animate both loops for Godzilla and Kong for the Google AR thing. It was just a few days of work for a ten seconds loop so the anim is not amazing 🫠
@MarkWitton
"Ultimately the point made here is just a dinosaur-specific reminder that special effects and action alone do not make good films: it's memorable stories, characters and situations that resonate most with critics and audiences alike.". I love this. Great post!!

This one I got from here years ago, but I think they are not taking orders anymore.
Look for "stop motion winder rig"! Unfortunately they are not super easy to find, usually I see a lot of "out of stock"
@Coolio_Art
One thing to keep in in mind is that, in production, animators don't get to decide how fast those creatures move. This is the sort of direction that comes from the very top
@DMan1954Gojira

Even if somehow the VFX vendor used the same models and rigs from a previous movie, you still have to go through post-production process for each shot: Layout, Animation, CFX, FX (destruction FX costs lost of money), Light and Comp. Multiply that for a whole movie and 💸💸💸💸

From the documentary Dinosaur!, hosted by Christopher Reeve. It haunted my dreams as a kid, but I could never stop watching. The way they kinda start resting their heads at the end. They feel like real animals, not cliche dinosaur monsters. ♥️

Awn thanks man!! There was no planning or ref involved, only going with the flow. That "sniff" was definitely something like "you know what, he is going to sniff it now" and I'm glad you enjoyed it haha
@Chris_G_Art
We shot references ourselves for almost all the shots. With it you can get a lot of the intention, acting and general body mechanics. For let's say a bite I would watch videos of Komodo dragons, bears, anything that could help : )
@EDGEinthewild
@AnimationToolkt
Thank you! And nothing from the BOTM figures, although the way the feathers placement work was heavily inspired by them : )
@SirBlameson
@TetZoo
@Beast_SculptKit
I really appreciate that, thank you. For this one although still a quick job, I had some bird references (mainly Cassowary) to look at : )
@Elaina92407387
Thank you so much!! It was definitely one of the most fun projects I've been on, nothing like giant monsters destroying everything to make me happy
@april_b_arting
Sure! What I've done is nothing fancy, it's a regular rig setup overall, but for the legs I recommend this video tutorial here (also all of his tutorials tbh, they are great) from
@antCGiClub
, where
he gives a few alternatives
@Toledo15229073

Zero plan for now, mostly because I need to learn how to paint haha. So it will stay as a beautiful reference figure, and maybe in the future get some painting on it : )

Dude I freaked out the first time I saw your concept art when I was working in the movie. I had to contain myself to not scream in the middle of the studio
