@EdinburghUP @eparpillee @manymanyplies @hilda_beastoxf @poulethelen I feel very lucky to be able to continue this work in such supportive conditions (and recognise the irony of how things have lined up). I’m so grateful to Helen, the Senior Tutor, and the GB at Hilda’s! @hilda_beastoxf

@EdinburghUP @eparpillee @manymanyplies @hilda_beastoxf @poulethelen I’ve spent much of the last 18 months thinking about precarity in early modern France. That work has little to do with job insecurity and working conditions etc but all that stuff is undoubtedly there in the background.

@EdinburghUP @eparpillee @manymanyplies 2) From October I’ll be starting a new (permanent!) fellowship at @hilda_beastoxf I’ll be Gerard Davis Fellow in early modern french. I owe so much to incredible colleague @poulethelen who has done so much to make this happen.

We’re all living through a great enshittening, in which the services that matter to us, that we rely on, are turning into giant piles of s**t. It’s frustrating. It’s demoralising. It’s even terrifying https://t.co/ja2zE6PcYn

A cheery little alexandrine from Montaigne: tournons les yeux par tout: tout crolle autour de nous (everywhere you look, everything is collapsing around us)

“The ricotta eaters” (Vincenzo Campi, ca. 1580). I consider this to be the worst painting I have ever seen

Amidst all the wonderful memories of NZD being shared this week I still think too few historians know that the guys who wrote Les Mis turned The Return of Martin Guerre into a Broadway musical.

... except in so far as, you know, I need to get paid. And universities are already under some threat so we gotta play our cards careful. Anyway point is: from a strictly educational point of view I don't see any issue with majority A's. The problem is one of political economy.
