Hi @RedwingCoaches - one of your coaches mounted the pavement and destroyed a bollard while lots of children were walking to school on Valley Road this morning. This is dangerous driving on a street with weight restrictions.

The mystery zebra crossing on Valley Road feels like more than a prank. It feels like a message: “We want safety. We want our streets back. And if you won’t protect us, maybe we’ll protect each other.”.

One thing is clear. Whoever did this filled a gap left by policy failure. Because when communities feel unsafe, and authorities stay silent, people step in. Sometimes with words. Sometimes with paint.

Now, a rogue zebra crossing has appeared overnight. It looks official. It works. Drivers slow down. Children can cross. But nobody knows who made it. Is it a protest? A last resort? Guerrilla urbanism?.

Just recently, a schoolchild was hospitalised after a motorbike mounted the pavement and hit them. Yes, you read that right: hit on the pavement. The community is furious. Many say the council has ignored repeated calls for action.

Since the LTN was removed, heavy traffic has returned, and so has danger. The road now sees high volumes of speeding cars, vans, and motorbikes. For people walking, especially children, it’s become hostile again.

Valley Road isn’t just any street. It used to be part of a Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN), which cut vehicle numbers by over 10,000 a day. When the LTN was in place, streets were calmer. Safer. Quieter. But that changed.

Something strange has appeared on Valley Road: a zebra crossing… that no one can officially explain. No @lambeth_council signs. No announcement. Just fresh paint. No one seems to know who did it. But many say: “It should’ve been done a long time ago.”
