@NYUPainResearch (3/3) Together, the studies reveal a promising avenue for future research: targeting antidepressants selectively to the gut as a new and potentially safer way to treat mood disorders. Read more about both studies: https://t.co/4lgfAvUYhY & https://t.co/1wsH8lKJo6

@NYUPainResearch (2/3) mood disorders, and digestive issues. The studies show that increasing serotonin in the lining of the gut improves anxiety and depression, and that antidepressants during pregnancy increase the risk for digestive issues in children.

Our latest paper was published today at Molecular Psychiatry-a population based study showing a link between in utero ssri exposure and DGBI diagnoses. Not a call for pregnant women to stop SSRIs! But more research is needed!
Prenatal SSRI exposure is linked to a higher risk of childhood DGBI. These findings align with preclinical data highlighting serotonin's role in gut development and emphasize the need for further research on maternal SSRI use and gastrointestinal outcomes. https://t.co/8BZEivSbuy
