I am tweeting for the first time since 2022 because today’s judgment was a personal vindication. I’m absolutely delighted, and grateful to the wonderful team who helped us to get this right.

It is indeed ironic to be reported to the UN for seeking a balanced, respectful debate, defending the rights of all.
It would be bad manners to comment on decisions of my estimable successors at the @EHRC David Isaac and Kishwer Falkner, both appointed in much the same way as I was.But I served a three full terms at CRE/EHRC under both Labour administrations and Tory/Lib Dem coalition…..1/5

Just to clarify that I meant to say that we don’t have a right not to be offended. Conflicting views are part of healthy discourse! Thanks @stephenpollard for pointing this out.
EHRC chair Baroness Falkner just said on @BBCr4today , responding to Forstater ruling, "we all have a right not to be offended". This is wrong on every level. There is neither a legal nor a 'moral' right not to be offended, and it is essential we never go down this path

I voted today on a Trade Bill amendment to ensure that parliament, not a committee of retired judges should decide if a trading partner is committing genocide - it’s the responsibility of us parliamentarians and shouldn’t be outsourced, my speech is here:

Remembering my trip to #Auschwitz in 1999, I felt it important to go before that century closed. Our duty now is to ensure the next generation understands and remembers.

In a letter in the @guardian our Chair, @KishwerFalkner, highlights how we take our independence "incredibly seriously" in response to recent criticism. https://t.co/jdFqeKkHIW

A sweet victory indeed but Jon Ossoff is more than a great democrat- his victory should be an inspiration to all young people that politics can be a noble cause.

My very experience as I went into Parliament today. People I expected to get a nod or smile didn’t recognise me. Masks great to subvert the system.
Libertarians! If you object to being forced to wear a mask on health grounds; then wear one because it will slow the government’s adoption of facial recognition technology.

Exactly.
Average incomes of over 75s are higher than families with kids. They have lower poverty rates than under 75s. https://t.co/wbkAbhTIsK Even those on pension credit are better off than many working age welfare recipients. Hard to make case for special treatment on economic grounds

I also have an oral question in the Lords today pressing HMG for a strategic rethink on China.
Excellent piece in the @Telegraph from David Alton, @KishwerFalkner, @Andrew_Adonis and Michael Forsyth making the link between Huawei and human rights in China. https://t.co/gyl58wnxXI
