@AndyBurnhamGM From a public health perspective, it’s a no brainer to retain mandatory face coverings on public transport and in essential enclosed public places … it’s the socially responsible measure to protect our fellow citizens whilst new infection rates are rapidly escalating. I despair.

I looked into *why* the supply of Covid-19 rapid tests has been so badly disrupted in the UK. TL;DR: All of the distribution is being handled by a single company which will be closed for 7-8+ days around Christmas and New Years' Eve and therefore shortages will persist. 🧵👇🏾

Staggering number buried in today’s #COVID19 winter plan: Test & Trace will cost an extra £7bn, so £22bn total this yr. To put that into perspective, that’s more than the ENTIRE cost of Crossrail (£18bn) or the Channel Tunnel (£9bn at the time, just under £20bn in today’s money).

Another absolutely brilliant thread from @danielgoyal #covidinquiryUK … completely agree with this analysis 👇 and it needn’t have been like this.

Before Johnson gives his evidence we should consider a few things: 1. Just how bad was the UK pandemic response? 2. How much could Johnson have affected this? 3. What was Johnson’s intent? 4. Was there any overt maleficence? Thread 1/n (buckle-up!)

Another must read thread by the excellent @ADMBriggs I’d point out that local control & extra national investment by government in a dph led system should be immediately given to all councils not just tier 3 as the objective surely is to halt the escalation between tiers!

Local contact tracing is where local authorities set up local teams to contact cases that the national team is unable to reach within 24hrs. They're seen as part of the solution to rising case numbers in England.

@trishgreenhalgh @drcotovelo Seriously?? I think the UK’s Special Envoy on #AMR Sally Davies needs to have an urgent word! And I do hope that the SoS isn’t saying she has shared prescription medicines with family and friends … someone should direct her asap to the relevant info on this @MHRAgovuk website.

This is a completely unsustainable situation ... on top of existing significant staff vacancies and increased sickness absence.

@MichaelTakeMP Perhaps it’s time to go back to the educationally & economically productive Victorian childhood of yore instead of tofu & the inter web. Young Louis would have been quite old enough in those halcyon days to be gainfully employed up chimneys & in the mills & he’d learn a trade

@KayBurley I have no doubt that if the date was 1907 the headline would read “Hardie to use Women to Rig Polls” or, going further back to 1819 “Orator Hunt to use Mill Workers to Rig Polls” …The Establishment isn’t in favour of extending the suffrage ..well there’s a surprise 🤔

Disposable vapes are a hazard for waste and litter collection teams Their colours, flavours and advertising appeal to children with more and more – who have never smoked - vaping They need to be banned
