Former Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party. Former Ambassador of Canada to Ireland
Trout Brook, New Brunswick
Joined January 2015
David Johnston knows the issues of Conflict of Interest as well as any learned Judge. David Johnson is his own man and would never allow anyone including JT to « put » him in any position. Honour, Honesty, Integrity, Values trump Perception and this red herring.
It’s @JustinTrudeau who should be ashamed to have put an honourable man in this position. He knew Johnston was conflicted, from his friendship with his family to his past support of #confuciusinstitutes He professes outrage while using the man as political cover. Appalling.

Memo to Yellen and Powell (why didn’t he waive the blackout period???): To stem a crisis like this, you find buyers, not depositors. First Republic needs a real capital injection. Stop the game of playing small-ball already and start taking this seriously.

Reposol has come to the same eco mic conclusion for East Coast LNG port as Arthur Irving did on east coast oil pipeline years ago. Not economically viable. Unfortunate for New Brunswickers to have been so misled on this issue.

Lagarde must believe that making the same policy mistake Trichet did in the summer of '08 is a wise thing to do. If Powell thinks this is the right course at the next FOMC meeting, the only trade is into long bonds because the recession is going to come into even fuller view.

Totally disagree with @acoyne and his Tweets. I know David Johnston. He is the essence of honesty and integrity. If Trudeau has down wrong, hiding information, took advantage of the situation, Johnston will kick his arse. Not a question in my mind.
Yes. We also need someone without personal or professional connection to the Prime Minister, and with a track record of getting to the bottom of things. On either score there are questions.

This is pretty appalling. The process is flawed - we don’t know the mandate or the powers of the role. But David Johnston deserves better than these as hominem attacks from people with less credibility than him.
Another random Liberal tasked by Trudeau to support his corruption and scandals. Nothing to see here folks they say.

But we are going to fire our Governor of the Bank of Canada right?
I’m looking at Canada, the 51st state with good manners and great donuts, and the ex-shelter core CPI was 0.0% in January and running at an oh-so-scary +1.9% annual rate over the past three months. No wonder the BoC moved to the sidelines! StatsCan should give the BLS a lesson.

IEA: “World oil supply should comfortably exceed demand in the first half of the year… Much of the supply overhang reflects ample Russian barrels racing to re-route to new destinations” — despite warnings it would buckle under international sanctions.

Global oil markets are contending with a surplus as Russian production defies predictions of a slump while fuel demand slowly picks up, the International Energy Agency said.

Always frustrated by the focus of media on calling out RCMP for systemic discrimination which is much deserved but never a beep on Members of Parliament, Judges, Crowns, lawyers and academic community where as can be seen it is as equally pervasive.
