This lad’s not going to be happy when he sees one returned 85/40.
Fairytale of New York is a brilliant song, but it is let down by the line "came in 18 to 1". These odds are extremely rare as usually the odds go from 16/1 to 20/1. 16/1 would be a much more believable line and still fit with the melody.

It really is that simple.
Everyone, as long as you are disciplined, could live off gambling. Let’s say you follow two tipsters. £5k bankroll each, advised 100pt banks. Both average 30 units a month. That’s £3k net income roughly a £50k job. There should be no excuses. Anyone in the UK should be able

Deposit £400 with Kwiff. Attempt to bet a Greyhound £50…maximum stake allowed £12 (very first bet) I put it on. Attempt to withdraw £388 (I’m not betting in 12 quids. Respect if you are) Told I cannot withdraw it, the activity is suspicious that I haven’t bet more. Please

I wrote this piece on the Gambling Commission's involvement in last year's lobbying for tax increases. Given the Government expects the changes to fuel criminality, has the regulator contributed to the undermining of one of its core licensing objectives?

Backtesting, if done without this statistical insight, is just an example of survivorship bias. As well as splitting your sample, you should always start with a hypothesis and test if the data confirm it. Too many backtest by looking for a signal and then fit an explanation to it
Why do your "99% Win Rate" strategies fail the moment you go live? You didn't find an edge. You just painted a target around a random cluster of past data. @LessonsInLogic_ shows why "comprehensive backtests" are often just glorified luck—and how to spot the difference before

Today, the Prime Minister told the House of Commons that "harm from online gambling has surged" and appeared to back this up with the claim that "NHS referrals [for disordered gambling] are up 91% the past year." This raises a number of issues. A thread.

Increasing tax ≠ reduced harm. I’m amazed how politicians and lobbyists have managed to conflate these two issues. Two impacts will be increased cost to the bettor (reduced RTP) and a more attractive black market. Neither is going to reduce gambling harm. Quite the opposite.
It's budget day tomorrow and along with @AlexBallingerMP I'm calling for changes to the way the most dangerous forms of gambling are taxed💷 It's time for gambling reform that puts public health and fairness ahead of soaring gambling industry profits✅

It's just a playground game to some of these people. Matt & co got the majority of their wish list - they can own the consequences when the inevitable happens.

Today’s budget would seem like a good time to remind people that the Black Market is the absolute Wild West out there. Good luck getting paid if you win! Almost zero recourse when you don’t. The whole industry is a shambles atm.

After opening a deluge of patronising emails and seeing lots of drivel from bookmakers on social media I have decided to gamble extremely irresponsibly this week in protest.

@mckinleyslade someone tweeting about it makes it a million times more likely a trader will notice it sharing a play is fine. sharing rationale behind a play is fine. sharing an edge that is likely to repeat itself is moronic and there should be a culture of educating people to stay quiet
