It's instructive to look at this chart, peak inequality in the UK coincides with the point when the UK overall at its wealthiest point and *everyone* was better off. This is because in Western societies, inequality and overall prosperity are linked - certainly some do better

The most depressing thing in the UK at the mo - and it comes up over and over with our pod guests - is that our problems and their solutions are obvious. It is just that there is no political appetite to change. Almost like politicians prefer the problems to the solutions.

People seem to be catching up with what I said in 2022 - which is that the OBR process doesn't work and makes economic policy worse. But the problem is deeper than that. There is a "Treasury view", shared by the Bank of England, that is Keynsian. It supports closer integration

@QueenAnticommie Ironically, the girls has a more abstract understanding of numbers and math than the guy does. The guy is "conventional." The girl is "post-conventional", but she's not sophisticated enough to express herself nor smart enough to really understand what she's trying to say.

The Government and Labour MPs are deluded thinking that by raising income tax they will have "ripped the plaster off" - and that magically the public finances will improve before the next election. The British economy is in serious trouble. Businesses and talent are fleeing.

"Day One Rights" is just insane. What if you accidentally hire a complete arsehole? You're now not allowed to get rid of them. 🤦
Labour are delivering the biggest upgrade to workers’ rights in a generation. ✅Boosting pay ✅Day-one rights ✅Family-friendly working A New Deal for Working People.

@financedystop 100 percent bullshit. Masculine men don’t JUDGE a woman by what she does for a living, but if a guy doesn’t even know the answer to that question by the third date, he’s just looking for a hook up. She’s delusional.

@Heccles94 Well that's complete nonsense. It's ranked as the MOST important issue facing the country.

We will continue to pathologically whack the definitionally most economically productive people in the country until the economy improves.
In 2000, UK top 10% incomes were no 3 in the world, but they’ve since gradually fallen and are now behind the rest of the Anglosphere and northwestern Europe; just above Spain and Italy.

This is not a credible narrative from the PM. We know the Foreign Office was sent the full contents of the emails on Tuesday last week by Bloomberg News. We know the FO alerted Downing Street. We know the FO sent questions to Mandelson in DC on Tuesday evening and was still
