I hope many of you will subscribe to CURRENT so that you can read more "publicly dunkable" pieces! ;-) That's Click the red "membership" button. We'd love to have folks join the conversation!.
I wasn't going to publicly dunk on this piece, but John Fea is wrong about @BMcGrewvy's post. Luikart's piece absolutely says this, and what's more, the essay begins with a sentence that is so self-evidently false that it staggers the mind.

Dorothy Sayers made a very similar argument in a 1942 essay titled "Why Work":
Today @Current_Pub1, Paul Luikart's controversial words "To the Christian Writer," opening with heavy fire: "First of all, there’s no such thing as Christian art." .Read his argument in full, then DISCUSS! Do you agree?

Just to be clear, this post mischaracterizes Paul Luikart's piece. We at love the essay. But please read it and decide for yourself.
In which the writer airily tells everyone to stop reading C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien and take up writers like [checks notes] Margaret Atwood, e. e. cummings and Annie Proulx?.
