Henry Winter’s surprise exit a sign of the fracturing evolution of the football media | Jonathan Liew

Times writer probably became the closest thing football journalism has ever had to a celebrity but the game, and the way we consume it, has changed

This is an extremely impressive take from Tim Cahill some 3.5 years ago given the progress Arsenal have made in the period since. Despite Roy Keane continually trying to shout him down, he stuck to his guns and has been proven right.

You own a water company…. You enjoy a monopoly market You sell something people require for survival You don’t spend profits building or repairing your infrastructure You give billions to shareholders You pollute our waters …you then expect the bill-payer to bail you out.

I'm not even sure if "the West" exists anymore, just a few scattered countries that disagree on almost everything. It risks shrinking even further. But happily, we can save Ukraine if we choose to. Me @FT

“Never been out in the 90s” ~ @mcjnicholas Shane Warne reaction was priceless. How much do you miss Shane Warne behind the mic?

Every single press confernece he is asked the same question. When he started on @atptour it was “ah but when r u going to win Wimbledon?” Every single time. Let him enjoy whatever time is left of his career. He is 50 in the world, has a metal hip, a bipartite patella + 4 kids.

Both the greatest strength and weakness of the Conservative party is its lack of ideological coherence. Take Danny Kruger, who represents the "conservative" extreme. A true traditionalist he apparently believes the Enlightenment was a step too far... 1/

Among all the new forms of Conservatism springing up in the run up to the next election, Kruger's New Conservatives appear to be the most religious in their "holy war against the Left"

Unbelievable! Will and I had the chance to chat with Freya back in 2022, World Champion probably seemed a distant prospect back then. Listen here to our interview:
🥇 Freya Colbert is WORLD CHAMPION! The 19-year-old's first global medal is a golden one in the 400m medley ✨ #AQUADoha2024

Exactly what the game needs to instil some proper values, order and respect @omeadows14
Blue cards and sin-bins will be trialed in football, per @TeleFootball Players will be removed from the pitch for 10 minutes for cynical fouls and dissent.

At first glance, this seems appalling and absurd. But there's a reason Rishi Sunak is backed into a corner and can't apologize. Here's why. 🧵 https://t.co/HG2jp2uD65 /1

Win or lose from here, the ICC has a duty to give the Windies (and other nations) more Test cricket. Still easily the best and most thrilling format

It always blows my mind how much wider the partisan trust gap is for US media compared to the UK 🤯 Most British media is trusted (or distrusted) about equally by supporters of both major parties. That’s true of virtually no US media org. Deeply corrosive for US society.

@MrHarryCole Do you acknowledge that the specific reason for Starmer’s being involved in these cases was to stop these defendants being put to death?
