Voting reform and the far right: be careful what you wish for? Part 2 Without external guardrails, PR, like Trumpism, "becomes just a child with a handgun … lets make representative democracy fit for our times". https://t.co/blHQDZCymv

The second of two articles proposing that, to resist the far right, our plans for UK proportional representation urgently need a re-think

The parallels between Johnson/Cummings and Trump/Musk are obvious and Musk’s appointment will no doubt end acrimoniously.

These petitions became pointless under the Tories but I’m open to trying again with the new government especially following Trump’s win. Petition: Apply for the UK to join the European Union as a full member as soon as possible

I believe joining the EU would boost the economy, increase global influence, improve collaboration and provide stability & freedom. I believe that Brexit hasn't brought any tangible benefit and there...

@Haggis_UK Badenoch is so very very graceless. What’s to be gained from sneering at another woman’s achievement like this? Reeves has smashed a glass ceiling, just like she has. Maybe celebrate all of that rather than being so dismissively grim.

The Tories know they can play on the NI increase and MSM is facilitating that. Why isn’t anyone comparing these proposed increases to increases in minimum wage? One increase is much more significant to the cost of business than other but only the NI increase is criticised.

Where were all the Tories calling for the equitable support of small business owners as ‘working people’ when Rishi Sunak excluded directors from the furlough scheme during Covid? #ForgottenLtd

Be a real pity if #FarageRiots was to trend above Reform on the day their conference begins wouldn't it. Really hope that doesn't happen. Be a real downer. Sad.

This is best analysis I've read about the recent riots what the future holds. @ClaireJones8464 @WEBylines

The recent riots have been an ugly carnival of hatred with troubling causes. But they have also highlighted powers that should inspire hope

I totally get the arguments (I think) against invoking comparisons with the darkest days of our history. But also this…

Odd decision to discuss Olympic boxing gender eligibility on the @theJeremyVine show. Storm Huntley knew a little but it was fairly clear that Tice and Vine had only absorbed a few headlines. We owe it to all the people impacted to do better than that.

It's not the not knowing the Spanish national anthem doesn't have lyrics that makes you the thickest person in the country, it's that your original instinct was to take to X complain with no regard for whether that might be the case.
So, ok, I didn’t know the Spanish national anthem doesn’t have lyrics. This means of course that according to Twitter I am the thickest person in the country and should hang my head in utter shame. Hey ho,

On July 4, something remarkable happened in Oxfordshire - the 'blue' was fully drained from the county and it's political landscape turned on its head https://t.co/hg8fmfMcxh

After victory as a result of tactical voting, new Oxfordshire MPs should waste no time in pressing for electoral reform.
