I am confused. Can someone explain to me how #ReadABookDay is different to any other day of the year?

I am going to keep reposting this.
It should have been over when the first doll-sized corpse was picked from between the rubble, because that is when anyone, even the most hateful and fearful human, normally realises that nothing, not even the stinging soap of past horrors, can wash the blood off one’s hands.

Call me crazy but I want a society where everyone from the artist to the janitor is paid a living wage, where careers and creative hobbies aren’t being stolen by machines, where books and music and learning are celebrated instead of demeaned.

I had given up following the US prez campaign because it ate a hole in my stomach. Then one day I woke up & found my people were in favour (childless cat ladies), along with great memes. And now it's producing lines like this and oh boy, does it make me happy. Via @Davidlaz
Pritzker: "We have a choice between the man who left our country a total mess and the woman who has spent four years cleaning it up. And I think it's time we stop expecting women to clean up messes without the authority and the title to match the job."

It can be done!
If you don't know it already: the story of how Copenhagen transformed its deeply polluted harbour (heavy metals, toxins, sewage) into a clean, swimmable space (otters, seals, people) is hugely inspiring. "Water is [now] the lifeblood of this modern city." https://t.co/CKuheAguPv

In the category of really nice news of the day: congratulations all!
I honestly cannot believe my little story has made it to this list, alongside such incredible and some super established writers, and will be part of an anthology edited @JoanneHichens and @KarinaMSzczurek 😱

I somehow dropped the pics when reposting this: that's me on the far right of the 1st pic. In the presence of greatness, starting with Prof Moyo, Deputy VC: Research, Innovation + Postgraduate Studies at SU, and a mathematician pushing for gender equality in STEM fields.
Excited to kick off the Futures Interrupted Conference with a welcome message by Prof. Sibu Moyo! Thanks, @ShireenHassim, Amanda Gouws @SARCHIGender & @feminist_rogue, for putting this together 👏🏾 #AfriFemFutures
