The NHS spends less money on management than ANY equivalent health system - this is one of the results.
Our national study found that for every one hour with patients, UK resident doctors spend four hours on admin. In @bmj_latest today, we break down why this isn’t just an inconvenience, it’s a safety risk. 1) Fragmented EHRs → endless copy-paste + re-entering data.2) Trainees

NHS England's elective chief has admitted the service is not on course to hit the main 2025-26 elective care targets and has "more to do" to bring performance "back in line".
🌟 Hardworking NHS staff have now delivered nearly five million extra appointments. 🌟 With the lowest number of patients waiting for more than 18 weeks for treatment in nearly three years. We’re getting on with turning the NHS around.

Which I'm sure the UK government would like to do too - if it had the money (which it claims it doesn't).
With the #NHS 10 Year Plan having a strong emphasis on shifting more care into the community, we have been studying other health systems which have had the same goal. 🏘️ . This blog by @sjanereed discusses what we can learn from Denmark and Ireland. 👇 .

“The [10 Year Health] plan is very clear about one really big change. We’ve got to stop viewing the healthcare system in this country as being about a single institution that we happen to call the NHS." That 'happen to call' feels telling. especially for a Lab Govt.

My favourite ever HSJ first sentence. "A trust has seconded the chief operating officer from a neighbouring provider as its interim CEO after the incumbent was temporarily transferred to run a 3rd provider following the move of its CEO to a 4th trust, also on an interim basis.

Nearly twice as many people worried about immigration than the NHS.

A hyper-rare example of a politician praising managers and critising doctors in the same sentence.
Streeting upping the ante further on the doctor's strike: "Your strike action [has had] a detrimental impact on patients. your colleagues & the NHS, which might have been worse were it not for the considerable efforts of NHS leaders & front-line staff who stepped up 1/2.

Your action has also been self-defeating, because you have squandered the considerable goodwill you had with me and this government. I cannot in good conscience let patients, or other NHS staff, pay the price for the costs of your decision" 2/2

Now spoken to another CEO in Midlands about RD strikes. No changes in combined score (50% turnout, imapct 3.5 out of 10). CEO says 'its the consultants earning £3-4k a day that annoys me most'.
A short thread about the impact of resident doctors’ strikes. I spoke to seven NHS trust CEOs (more at less at random). Three in the south east, two in London, and one each in the Midlands and NW. I asked the CEOs to gauge RD turnout and impact of the strikes 1/4.
