If you prefer seeing your driver win everything, that’s fine, but that’s a very subjective metric for excitement. 2023 was interesting, sure, but we’re seeing more from Max this year—to say nothing of Lando & Oscar. 2025 is plainly better than 2023 on any objective scale. 8/8.

Sunday’s Hungarian GP is a case in point. Lando deployed an aggressive strategy that required him to push his superior tire management to the max. It gave us an edge-of-your seat battle in the last laps. It was both technically impressive & exciting. I hope we get more. 7/.

And that is far more interesting a spectacle than what we got in 2023. We *know* that Lando & Oscar are pushing the MCL39 to the limit because they both have to if they want any chance of winning the WDC. And that is a sight to behold. 6/.

The MCL39 isn’t as dominant as the RB21 (it’s already lost 3x the number of races). But it is far enough ahead that it’s a two-car competition. And it is a *real* competition. That’s why Lando & Oscar are making mistakes: they’re pushing each other. 5/.

Fact is, Max rarely, if ever, had to push the RB19 to the limit. He never had to. So don’t tell me it was some ethereal, sublime performance by Max. It wasn’t. The car let him break a bunch of records fun for his fans. He was just mopping up; running up the score. 4/.

If Max is your driver & you like to see him dominate like that, fine. But while we did see something special in the RB19—a nearly perfect car, relative to the field—the idea that we saw some special driving is unpersuasive. 3/.

Max was near perfect in 2023 bc nobody was close to him. It was so bad that F1TV started pushing Checo vs. Max to us ~1/3 of the way through the season bc that was the only mathematically feasible competition—even though it required Max suffering a stroke to be realistic. 2/.

Once you look past Max’s hagiographic “perfect driver” narrative, it’s clear that he does make mistakes when he’s pushed—even discounting the times the FIA bailed him out. That didn’t happen in 2023 bc Max demanded & got a number 2 driver who wasn’t at his level. 1/.

@Wolframed00 @oshillex Look I think 2023 was a better season because I enjoyed seeing Max breaking every record, that is not bias, I'm even assuming my preference. I just don't think a season where 2 teammates that make mistakes almost every weekend are fighting alone for the championship is good.

Just kinda scratching my head that one of the richest CEOs in the world went to the White House yesterday to deliver the president a literal piece of gold in exchange for an exemption to the president's tariffs and did it on live TV.
