I’ve had that mindset before, I think I understand it, but even I can’t understand what these senators think the Democratic caucus achieves here. Much less what we say to all the people trying to buy health insurance and finding they can no longer afford the same plan.
I think if you want to understand what the minority of senate Dems who are supporting this deal are thinking, you actually do have to set the politics aside — they are concerned about the harm the shutdown is doing and high-mindedly want to bring it to an end.
