There has been no one. I mean no one who makes India look respectable, resonable, coherent & on a morally higher plane the way @ShashiTharoor has done. The government should send it's people to Shashi for training. We need more of this! articulate, argumentative & powerful🤌
"Let's be clear. India wants nothing Pakistan has. India is happy to leave PAK alone. But Pakistan is a bigoted power that wants to take over parts of India only because the people living there share the same religion as Pakistanis," says Shashi Tharoor

For the vegetarian Indian tourists travelling to Greece after making the wise decision to boycott Turkey, these are my four favourite Greek vegetarian dishes: Kolokithokeftedes, Gigantes, Gemista, and Fava. I follow the Greek diet, which most Greeks do not (...), so red meat

1/It is looking increasingly likely that absent a major new math/cog-sci breakthrough, current general AI approaches will stall in the face of negative marginal ROI, resulting from poor performance, industry headwinds, and poor governance by industry players.

"One of the ways in which mainstream media controlled the narrative was by just ignoring..." Really worth watching this interview on what our media has become. Indian media is no different. Partisan, biased and explicitly so.
“It was almost explicit that the coverage at the Times had to help Joe Biden's election. More than explicit lies about what was happening in 2020, how the mainstream media controlled the narrative was by not covering it. All of us collectively agreed to ignore it.”

Such a dystopian and horrifying ad. Especially from the eyes of a culture which does ayudha puja and adores goddess Saraswathi. I cant believe they thought it was a good idea.

For Western feminists, Islam is the elephant in the room. Many feminists refuse to address how Muslim women suffer all over the world, and they anxiously avoid the topic of sexual abuse by migrant men from Muslim countries here at home. Read my latest:

The stuff happening in Colombia university and other US universities are an excellent example of "chickens coming home to roost..." Actions, consequences, karma. #colombia

NEW: Organizers of the Columbia encampment advised activists at Princeton on how to take over their own campus, giving them tips on disrupting university operations and stressing that there is "safety in numbers." We've obtained documents showing extensive coordination.🧵

Cultures aren't simply lost at the hands of ransacking barbarians. They're lost because they die first from something much worse: indifference...

I don’t understand why Indians need to make any point in the UK as if it is a neutral arbiter, or for that matter, have any less animus for the British. They fully deserve our animus. Not just for their conduct during the colonial era, but also for their conduct now.
My remarks at the Oxford Union almost a yr ago have made their way across social media. I gave a perspective on what has changed in India, citing events & anecdotes to support my argument. I’m overwhelmed to see how it has resonated with so many of you.🙏

I love these kind of reflections on language. Are there indians who also have such reflections on Indian languages. I know of @vakibs . Are there any others worth following?
In 1977, Jorge Luis Borges, one of the most influential 20th c. Spanish-language writers, told William F. Buckley (whose first language was Spanish) his reasons for feeling, age 78, that English was 'far finer' than his native tongue. Right or wrong, I love his savor for language

British practice of selling wife. Men would literally sell their wives, often at public auctions in markets or fairs, with crowds gathering to witness the event. The wife would be led by a halter around her neck, arm, or waist to symbolize her being property.

In a parallel to the architecture, the inner space of Indians is also disappearing and everyone is living for the sake of outer appearances.
Disappearing fast... but traditional Indian rural homes designed around a central courtyard (aangan) embodied a perfect harmony of functionality, sustainability and strong family bond..... Adding multiple floors for increased space & modern needs and improving aesthetics can

We dont have the caliber of people today to write new puranas or kavyas. And we do not have writers who can write good fantasy. As usual, we hide behind the "indic" label instead of creating the context & maybe teaching and forming future writers.

I cant help but feel a disquiet & distaste when I read "indic" fantasy. The attempt at transforming our rich & complex puranic kathas with pedagogical & adhyatmic fucntion into sci-fi/fantasy stories feels ...off. I have never been able to read a 'indic' fantasy fully.
Had read into a couple of Western Fantasy series in the last couple of months - the purpose being to spot civilizational differences between a Western Fantasy and what can be Indic Fantasy. Western Fantasy has super rich imagination, an unbridled creative liberty on its++
