Daddy-longlegs were thought to have only one pair of eyes. until now 🤯! We report today in @CurrentBiology that extant daddy-longlegs have additional vestigial eyes seen in four-eyed fossil relatives. Vestigial organs, fossils and evodevo!!🌈.👀👀👀.

It’s nuts! The ancestor of earthworms and leeches shattered and rearranged their chromosomes completely. They got the colorful play-dough that most animal phyla retain and mixed them into a purple/brown mess (we've all been there).
In one week, our paper on clitellate 🪱evolution came out on @biorxivpreprint on May 15th (left fig below), May 18th from @YJ_Luo (bottom-right), and yesterday @Rosamygale (top-right). As Dian-Han Kuo said, clitellate annelids are suddenly the hot topic! URLs in reply.
