https://t.co/Lp6vsE3IEb How a localised Wnt3 ligand establishes a consistent body axis. It controls both β-catenin and PCP pathways and systematically coordinates gene expression, tissue polarity and morphology. It also highlights a cell polarity-driven axis evolution scenario.

@univmiami Our initial focus will be on mechanisms of cell adhesion and morphogenesis. How did the first animals hold their cells together? Are there deeply conserved mechanisms underlying embryonic morphogenesis in metazoans?

I’m delighted to share that I will be starting my lab @univmiami in Spring 2025! We will study cellular and developmental biology in non-bilaterian animals – cnidarians, ctenophores, placozoans, and sponges – to explore early animal evolution.

We found an EGF gradient in the early fly embryo that enriches adherens junctions along the DV axis. This junctional pattern serves as a scaffold for actomyosin enrichment to drive tissue flow during gastrulation. Disrupting this EGF signal inhibits cell movement!

Thrilled to share our latest work from my postdoc with @MartinLabMIT in @Dev_Cell ! We uncovered a mechanism linking DV axial patterning with AP axis extension through patterned cell-cell adhesion. Intrigued? Dive into the details here!
Online now: Postdoc Nat Clarke's @natclarke8 excellent work on a mechanism that coordinates tissue folding and axis extension. Great job and congratulations Nat!
