I'm wondering why this release is only showing on the Softball page and not on the main athletics site. Notice that this is not a resignation, which should tell you something about the result of the investigation...
Hallway conversation with a college coach; "I wish that our players could be in our heads for one week...just to know how much we care about them, are thinking about them and are 100% focused on how to make their experience better. That's it. That's what I do."

Say what you will about expectations of winning. 1300 games, 26 years deserves better treatment. My response is not just how
@Coach_Jo_Evans
is a good person and great friend to many, but that she, as a human, deserves more.
I do not know what happened, but this is a textbook release for something more like: "Someone didn't like this Coach, complained to the right person, and so this championship program no longer has the person who cared most about it."
#fishy
A year ago people were saying "You guys will be happy just to play a game next year,". Nope, once the games start there is no JUST. The game deserves your best, and that means trying to win, among other things.

I think I'm gonna start posting "signing days" when kids take jobs, get into grad school or get killer internships. I'm just wondering why we celebrate 16 and 17 year olds so much more than we celebrate 22 and 23-year-olds?
#realquestion
Should it make me so happy to have a player ask, for no reason, "how are YOU doing, Coach?"
It does. Thank you for asking.

Best part of "Colorado"? Chatting with coaches from all corners of the game. Some of the best are coaching the teams I was watching.

Proudest achievement today? I was at a set of fields with parking on all four sides and I used the correct exit and found my car without any help.

Winning helps, and having a village (literally) makes things even better. This sign gets passed around our small town, and people pose in their slippers with friends/assistant coaches...so damn lucky.

As a College Coach I am a part of an academic community as well as the world of sport. It's on me to keep the student/athlete connection a strong one... It's one way we are finding our 🟣
Yesterday we had our semi-annual Bring A Prof To Practice Day. Here's evidence.

You, Coach, cannot do it all. Even if you ID your "all" in great detail (recommended), you still can't do it all. Coaching is not a to-do list and if it was it could be an infinite list. Do your best. Accept your best effort.
Coach Johnson was "put on leave"in March. We wrote this letter in May. An investigation started in the spring. It's been 150 days since anyone officially involved with the case has contacted Coach J. How is that not mistreatment?

I agree that the offseason is a good time to get work done (players and coaches), but it's also a great time to take some deep breaths, enjoy your people and take a high level look at who you are & what you want to be. Enjoy life. Now.
I find that recruits who say some version of "sorry for ____, but I'm so busy doing all the cool things I'm into that I didn't have time to do the foundational thing you asked me to do," are not likely to be able to do the foundational things in College either. Agree?
#mainthings
As I reflected on my career at the moment in the video, I realized that the single most important thing I've done is to ask for help. Really. I need a Coach all day, every day.

Email from a kid who is going somewhere else, "as I was packing my things this morning getting ready to move into___, I couldn't help but think of all the emails we had and how you challenged and educated me in the process and believed in me as a player."

BREAKING: Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who charted a course for women’s rights at the U.S. Supreme Court and became a legal, cultural and feminist icon, has died from complications from cancer. She was 87.
"My coach trusted me and made me feel empowered to keep working while accepting myself as I am now." Yes, please. Let's do more of that.
#coachingishard
In the spring and summer we heard of lots of softball coaches leaving/losing/being pushed out of jobs. How is everyone doing now? Does every program even have a Coach?
#capitalC
People think confidence is the thing they need to have to get started. Actually, confidence comes from developing competence. Start doing the thing and see how you feel.
Shout out to the HS and youth Coaches out there doing the hard work...some of the most engaged Coaches. It was great to connect with you again in SA. Among them:

@kevinbednoski
, Jon & Wendell...and

Please call

Taking time, not to make myself whole after a "crazy year" but to give myself the gift of time. For me. Making things "better" does not require being in a bad place. I usually start with a simple deep breath.

As the last sport wraps up for Eph teams this year, I want to say a big thanks to the Coaches who are the engine (and the wheels, windshields, gasoline, bumper stickers...) that makes the programs and teams run. I am lucky to be among some great ones here in the 413!
@EphSports
Lots of HCs leaving to become D1 assistants with the rule change. Good to have new opportunities for people but I hope we're ready to help these new D3 Coaches succeed. Look around for someone to support/get support from!
Heartbreaking for sure. Thirty-four years in and the end of a season, no matter how short, always wrenches my heart. Still: shows how lucky we are, the privilege to be this sad for this reason.

💔 for all the athletes & coaches whose seasons just came to an abrupt end. Playing on or coaching a team is a privilege. Last 24hrs makes us realize this truth. 💔
Practice, lifting, lunch, class, taking a walk, having ☕ or 🍦, raking leaves, practice, bullpens, agility work, study sessions... all of these things are team bonding. Team bonding does not need its own category, not time slot.

Is it really logistically impossible to move teams who are playing 4-5 games off of a game slot to allow others to play even one?

I think it would be fun if prospective players sent me a lowlight reel occasionally.
I think seeing a kid struggle would be informative in a few ways and just like highlights, there's no need to send everything, just give me a taste of what your misses are like.
Today a colleague said, about both parenting and coaching, something like this, "It's how you execute the discipline. Thats where the love lives,". I think it's brilliant.
#coachingcourseeveryday
I didn't write this, one of our players did, but it's been my driving force for 40+ years. Simply nothing like a good team.
And a good sticky note exercise!
I just got asked if I have a good 'fit for camp tomorrow. Now I'm feeling the pressure to rock the fall, athletic vibe in purple. Not easy...
You can comment tomorrow on the pix that will undoubtedly be posted by campers.

If you value being a coach, you should have a coach. Who's yours? They hold you to your standards, help you with perspective and push you to be better.

I've been seeing this meme a bunch lately. I aim to change it up so that the Coach can give bits of herself without leaving the holes. I know it's doable. We can use the relationships to keep us all whole and healthy.

Everyone is talking about the kids on September 1. Let's also consider the coaches, especially young ones, who are feeling pressure to make decisions too fast as well.

This teenage player has never been to campus, and I had never heard her name before today... I'm sure she and her advisors are not intending to offend, but fake understanding of a program is offensive.

Three observations after a weekend of watching travel softball players, coaches and parents in action (or not in action):
1-there's lots of fear out there...especially of the unknown. And at the same time very few questions are being asked so that more can be known.
Every other Friday we get a crew of coaches on a zoom call and chat about the craft. Any sport, any level (although typically most are collegiate). LMK if you'd like an invite for this week. It's been great fun the last few months.
