Joe, an elderly surfer type of guy who rented out sunbeds and parasols at Tel Aviv beach - treated me like a daughter for two weeks. During my holidays in Israel in summer 2001 I went there in the mornings before the heat kicked in. He would make sure I was always in the shade.
