It is with deep sorrow that we announce the tragic killing of our colleague, Ziyad El Toum. We extend our deepest condolences to Ziyad’s wife, extended family, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

On 12 July, the Red Cross Field Hospital in Rafah received 132 patients suffering from weapon-related injuries. This situation is unacceptable. The alarming frequency and scale of these mass casualty incidents underscore the horrific conditions civilians in Gaza are enduring.

On the evening of 10 July, an ICRC staff member and a PRCS volunteer were injured by gunshots during a joint rescue mission. The ICRC is outraged by this attack which is a stark reminder of the grave danger civilians in Gaza face every day.

📍Hostage Square, Tel Aviv. In Israel, families long to see loved ones again as 50 hostages remain held in Gaza. The ICRC calls for their immediate release and stands ready to help as a neutral intermediary, to visit them, provide aid, and connect them with their families.

On May 28, 13-year-old Ezzedine was hit by a stray bullet while receiving care at the Red Cross Field Hospital in Rafah. He was transferred for specialized treatment but unfortunately died from his wounds yesterday. We extend our condolences to his family and loved ones.

Today, a staff member at the Red Cross Field Hospital was injured by a stray bullet. Thankfully, he is stable and undergoing further treatment. This incident is unacceptable, and a reminder of the dangers civilians, medical staff, and patients experience every day in Gaza.

The International Committee of the Red Cross is deeply alarmed by the intensifying hostilities in Gaza City and Jabaliya, which have reportedly caused dozens of deaths and injuries among civilians over the past 36 hours.

The ICRC is concerned about recurrent violence in the West Bank that is resulting in deaths and injuries among local communities.

📍Gaza. Today, the 60-bed Red Cross Field Hospital in Rafah received a mass casualty influx of 149 cases. Tragically, 16 were declared dead on arrival, and three more died of their wounds shortly thereafter.

We’re devastated by the killing of our colleague Mahmoud Barakeh, who worked at the Red Cross Field Hospital. He was killed on his way home on Sunday 22 June. Our hearts are with his family and loved ones. Five colleagues have been killed in Gaza since October of 2023.

The Red Cross Field Hospital continues to respond to the urgent needs of the wounded and the sick in Gaza amid extremely difficult conditions.

This morning, the Soroka hospital in Beer Sheva was impacted by an airstrike. We are very concerned about the impacts on patients and medical providers.

In Gaza, civilians continue to be killed and injured as intense hostilities continue. Due to the ongoing restrictions of humanitarian assistance, people are also struggling to access basic goods, including fuel.

The ICRC continues to engage directly with the first responders from Magen David Adom, who are providing lifesaving support to the affected civilians. It calls on all parties to this conflict to protect civilians and civilian infrastructures.

The ICRC is deeply concerned about the latest escalation of hostilities in the region and the impact this is having on the civilian population in Israel and the occupied territories. Over the last 3 nights, over twenty civilians have been killed and 400 injured across Israel.

The healthcare system in Gaza is extremely fragile. To avert preventable deaths, the services of the remaining health-care facilities must be preserved and reinforced.

The unprecedented scale and frequency of recent mass casualty incidents treated at the field hospital is deeply worrying and illustrates the harrowing reality that civilians in Gaza are being forced to endure. (2)
