Russia’s war in Ukraine which the Kremlin believed would last days or weeks has now dragged on for as long as the Soviet Union fought Nazi Germany in World War II, from June 22, 1941, with Operation Barbarossa, until the final surrender of Germany on May 9, 1945: 1,418 days.
