A591 in Ambleside at a standstill heading South. Car parks getting full with most abandoning journeys.
Not seen snow on the ground like this in the 8 years I've lived here.

Back in town.
Snow has stopped falling.
Roads looking a lot better, slushy, but not sure if obstacles have been cleared further South on A591
Next to zero traffic

Just been down to the parish centre. Community out in force.
Daytrippers, families, couples and lone hikers now there for the night.
Police update saying gritters struggling to get through due to the abandoned cars. And snow slush now refreshing

7 YEARS SOBER!
Hard to believe I'm at this point. Could never imagine my life without alcohol at one point but now I can't see a life with it.
You are not alone, it is possible.

Beautiful for those with planned stays.
Less so for those bunkered down in the village halls right now. Roads still shut, don't travel here. Roads at a standstill with abandoned cars as it is. Gritters and emergency services struggling to get through

A mad 48 hours. Think I've done more media due to snow than in my 5 years as Fell Foodie 😅
Apologies if you are sick of me, handed in back to the pros now.

Roads moving again now. Plenty of grit out. Not sure about access into Ambleside but travel to nearby towns certainly possible now with care.
Traffic beginning to grow. Hope all those stuck found refuge
#Ambleside
#Cumbria
Not many cars on the street now, would expect this road to be full of folk in their b and bs
Many cars previously abandoned seem to have moved. Traffic non existent though
#Ambleside
#Cumbria
Plenty of cafes and shops open for those already in the town.
Do love when the snow comes living here but felt for those in distress with nowhere to go.
Not sure about roads in and out yet.

Crazy 48 hours in Ambleside.
Great to see you and Brian.

St John in the Vale, Cumbria B5322 impassable at Thirlmere end.
Lots of standing water on A591 and A66 as Storm Isha hits
Was aiming to get home before worst of it hit, already quite severe around Northern fells of the Lake District

Went for a run tonight.
Been putting it off since start of October.
It didn't suck nearly as much as I expected and now I feel great.
Get out and get that heart beating ❤️
Driving past
@SJBirkinshaw
, legendary Lakeland fell runner who ran all 214 wainwrights in 1 week, on the A66 picking up litter in the rain whilst on a run was very humbling. Dont forget your roots & your ethics. Thanks for doing your bit to keep the lakes looking as it should 👏
Another brilliant school trip in the Lake District today.
And only just caught the drizzle. All 20 kids had never been before and enjoyed a fell summit, freshly made fajitas and Nutella flatbreads.
Heartwarming these field trips.
Thanks to

More nights like this as clocks go forward tonight 🌅
Taking in a sunset whilst enjoying a freshly cooked dinner is one my favourite things in life.
I don't know whether its the relative escapism as the fells are often untrodden at this time.

Had the pleasure of being the Guest of Honour at the last Allerdale Borough Civic Dinner yesterday evening.
Lovely to be able to share my story and promote the charity partner Keswick Mountain Rescue.
First Monday back at work in 2022 for many. Potentially my last in a corporate setting as I leave to go freelance with Fell Foodie from Friday. Big year ahead

Just heard The George in Keswick will be closing down due to a lease renewal being refused (conversion into Marston's Signature brand). A very sad loss, the cow pie in there was tremendous.

SIX YEARS SOBER!!!
.
A bonkers thing to write. Another year further away from the man I was. Another year in control, doing things I could never have dreamt of.
.
My story of recovery has now become a part of my livelihood as I share my tale of struggle …
When you feel safe, you can truly be free -
@volvocaruk
I suffered in silence for years in fear of judgement and not wanting to be a burden. Eventually I hit my lowest, most vulnerable point and revealed the extent of my secrets.

Today marks 5 years sober and smoke free for me. My life couldn't be more different these days and all for the better. 2020 was a testing year and I am all the more grateful for my sobriety after it. One day at a time

We are so sad to hear that Dave Myers from The Hairy Bikers has passed away at the age of 66. He was an incredible man and a talented chef. Sending all our love to Si King, Dave's wife Lili, family and close friends, from everyone at BBC Food.

Great day raising funds for

Brilliant turnout
Available to preorder from this Friday a new outdoorsy cookery book from

titled Cook Out. Could be the end of dehydrated muck as we know it.
Ah yes the queuing up to board a plane that's not leaving for another 50 minutes forgot about that one.
I'll just sit and wait, since the plane takes off at the same time and our seats are already allocated 😂😂

Post Hike Out Kebabs

Still bonkers that I share my story, warts and all, in public like this these days.

I’ve had to keep this secret for a very long time but I am delighted to finally announce that back in May I was joined in the fells by the institution that is Dame Mary Berry!

She made her way to the Lakes especially to meet …
Rain turning the pristine white blanket into gritted slush.
Snow thawing on the road here. Paths very icy for pedestrians but plenty of movement now.
Seems W and SW of Windermere are the spots struggling the most now with loss of power and roads that haven't been cleared yet
Really needed to clarify distance you are allowed to travel there Boris.
Think we need to build roadblocks on the M6.
Please stay home and exercise locally. Cumbria is still not open.
