3/3 Single-dose of TIPs reduced viral load in monkeys and predicted to lower HIV load below @WHO recommended transmission threshold! Delighted to have contributed #MathematicalModeling with an amazing team @FathimaPitchai, @gusvasen, Clara, @LeorWeinberger, and collaborators!

It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong. In that simple statement is the key to science. *Cornell University Lecture, 1964* https://t.co/erVFrzMJqI

The engineered TIP, tested in rhesus macaques, significantly suppressed viral load and improved immune responses with a single dose. The TIP also showed potential for long-term HIV control, reducing the risk of resistance and lowering transmission potential.

Hi #ScienceTwitter fam, delighted to share some new exciting work on #HIV. Where are the cellular reservoirs of HIV? Why are they so hard to eradicate? What are some of the determinants for latency vs transcription in infected cells? Thread alert🔔! https://t.co/M7oRAAH4vC

⚡️Read the Editor's Choice article⚡️ Roan et al. suggest that #drugcombinations that target both the virus and infection may be more effective than #PrEP alone at #preventing #sexualtransmission of #HIV to women 👉 https://t.co/pDzmMJMZ9J

After identifying TIPs for SARS-CoV-2, we report that a single administration of TIPs reduces SARS-CoV-2 transmission and pathogenicity in hamsters that came in contact with infected animals. @Weinberger_Lab @GladstoneInst @DaveySmithMD @MikePablo_

The high transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2 is a primary driver of the COVID-19 pandemic. While existing interventions prevent severe disease, they exhibit mixed efficacy in preventing transmission,...

Today in @PNASNews, @TheOttLab @doudna_lab @abdullah_m_syed of @GladstoneInst used viral-like particles to probe what makes Omicron more infectious than other COVID-19 strains and how it responds to antibodies. My summary of their paper:
gladstone.org
Researchers used virus-like particles to identify which mutations of the Omicron SARS-CoV-2 virus make it more effective at infecting cells and escaping antibodies
