It's mornings like these that make me despair for the practical political intelligence of so many "commentators" around here.

Polls underestimated Mikie Sherrill's strength in #NJGov - and some Dems fretted it was closer after Murphy's 2021 near-death experience. Also, decades since a Dem replaced a two-term Dem. But she's ending up w biggest Dem margin in 24 years, bigger than Murphy '17.

After tonight, I think a lot of states really need to take a step back and reassess just how dummy-mander-proof some of these new maps actually are.
Republicans are pursuing a highly risky strategy on redistricting. The White House seems unaware you can’t just “draw” more GOP seats. You must win them. By diluting the GOP base, you are less likely to win any given seat, so the worst time to redraw is during a strong Dem cycle.

You can probably hear the drum machine throbbing in your head as you read the title. I'll be traveling for an event for the next two days, so here's a temporary sign-off. Tell me: how does it feel when your heart grows cold?

You don’t understand, the average voter is fervently watching Twitter, waiting to see whether we criticize Tucker Carlson or not. If only we had come together and embraced Tucker and Fuentes, that would have turned the elections.

Welp, I've written my election wrap-up, and now I think I'm just going to take a gentle dose of hemlock and see if I wake up in the morning.

The heuristic that Trump overperforms polls when he specifically is on the ballot but otherwise Democrats meet and often exceed their polls has been pretty reliable throughout the Trump Era.

Latinos are still *the* swing vote. But the couch is also a choice here. After Trump's big gains last year, Jack Ciattarelli only getting 32% of Latino vote in NJ. But they aren't really showing up either - Latinos only 10% of the electorate in exits.

Top five issues for Virginia voters in this election: economy (47%), health care (21%), immigration (12%), education (10%), crime (6%). Transgender rights didn't make the cut. (via NBC News exit polls)

The reason why people knew about the Jay Jones texts is that @NRO reporter @AudreyFahlberg broke the story. @NRO also found the time to write that it is bad to conduct a friendly interview promoting the views of a Nazi. Some of us can walk and chew gum at the same time.
Congrats to everyone who spent the last month crying about podcast hosts and group chats. The top law enforcement officer in Virginia wants to murder your children because of your political views, but at least you racked up some solid social media purity points.

I have never wanted to go to bed early more than tonight. (I have a morning flight to catch on top of everything else.) Instead, ugh, here I am on election night riding yet another roller-coaster into my own grave.

Winsome Sears was simply not a good politician. The environment was terrible, yes, and she was also just a terrible cultural fit for Virginia, yes. But I must emphasize above all else that she was not a good politician.

America may be full of news deserts but I am discovering levels of hyperlocal media in NYC I could never have imagined and it is a thrill.
This afternoon, BoroPark24 reporters visited multiple polling sites across Boro Park and, while it was expected that Andrew Cuomo would lead, the margin came as a surprise. Out of the many voters interviewed, only a few people voiced support for Zohran Mamdani, while an
