Trump entered politics as a birther. He won GOP nom after linking Ted Cruz’s dad to the Kennedy assassination. He took time out during a pandemic to accuse Joe Scarborough of murder. His tweet today about Buffalo protester wasn’t an example of him losing it. It is who he is.
The threat of climate change is so urgent that we can't solve it unless we commit to giving everybody free healthcare, free college, affordable housing, healthy food, well-paying jobs, and provide economic security to those unwilling to work.
There will be a lot of debates to be had years from now on our handling of Covid. But let us never forget that one side was the one forcing toddlers to wear masks.
The speed at which the hospital story shifted from “war crime” to “nevermind” once it became clear that it was caused by internal rocket fire and not Israel, shows that these people don’t actually care about Palestinian lives. They just hate Jewish ones.
This speech is horrifying. The idea that the president thinks he has the authority to unilaterally impose this mandate on private employers should be alarming to anybody who cares about preserving our form of republican government.
Among other things, the law school reference isn't plausible. Not only was she in a different graduating class from Thomas, but to the extent they overlapped, he wasn't even a conservative in law school -- that was just the beginning of his ideological transition.
.
@HillaryClinton
: "I went to law school with [Justice Thomas]. He’s been a person of grievance for as long as I have known him — resentment, grievance, anger … Women are going to die, Gayle. Women will die.”
The current 7-day average in DC is zero deaths. If the numbers improve any more, DC will have to start wakening the dead before they get out of this mandate.
Trump campaign statement: "President Trump soundly defeated NBC’s Savannah Guthrie in her role as debate opponent and Joe Biden surrogate. President Trump masterfully handled Guthrie’s attacks and interacted warmly and effectively with the voters in the room. "
The precedent that Republicans are establishing is that nobody should concede until they've exhausted weeks of legal options that cannot change the outcome, and until the Electoral College formally votes. They are not gonna like this precedent the next time they win.
Mystery? Come on! Was posted on her website and given to NPR as part of launch. When it caused embarassment, it got removed, and now they’re trying to gaslight everbody in to believing it was a hoax. Don’t fall for it or suggest ambiguity where none exists.
You’re fully vaccinated against the coronavirus — now what? Don’t expect to shed your mask and get back to normal activities right away. That’s going to be a disappointment, if not a shock, to many people.

Absent from the all of the statements decrying the humanitarian crisis in Gaza are any demands for Hamas, the actual governing body, to distribute its supplies to the civilian population. Why does Hamas get away with having 0% of the responsibility for taking care of its people?
NYT: Hamas has stored in its tunnels enough supplies to last 3-4 months of fighting. It has hundreds of thousands of gallons of fuel for vehicles and rockets, caches of ammunition, explosives and materials for their production, warehouses with food, water and medicine.
The initial impulse of the Biden administration, in a since deleted post, was to call on Israel “to refrain from violence and retaliatory attacks.” Truly sick.
So, **with social distancing ** , we've now had 31k deaths in six weeks due to this thing. That's actual data, not a model. And yet the skeptic caucus is declaring victory and saying data prove they were right all along that this was an overreaction.
Gov docs who incorrectly claimed he'd quickly die without life support cite expertise in denying parents the freedom to seek care. This is nothing short of state-sanctioned homicide in a system U.S. liberals often describe as being more humane than ours.
If McAuliffe campaign had no advanced knowledge of the stunt, ask yourself how they all happened to see tiki torch photo minutes after it was tweeted by a local reporter with a few hundred followers.
Wow — another twist. Sanders won this precinct by 20 points but now 5 candidates will get 1 delegate each — Biden team amassed extra delegates, and then siphoned them to Klo & Warren. Bernie supporters are pissed “This is a joke.. waste of time.” Stormed out.
Jen Psaki, one of the leaders in the Obama administration's disinfo campaign on Iran deal, opens by talking about importance of communicating truthfully.
One weird thing about this anon op-ed: If you're arguing your goal at WH is to calm Trump down, doesn't publishing this op-ed (particularly in NYT) accomplish the exact opposite?
Am I misreading? Trump seems to be claiming here that in a meeting, Bolton disagreed with his decision to stop China travel due to coronavirus. But travel ban happened months after Bolton left. Actually COVID didn't even exist when Bolton left as NSA.
Right now, there are enough Dem no votes to kill the bill, and Republicans are bailing out Pelosi and Biden. Every one of them should be defeated, and this should be viewed as a major stain on McCarthy's leadership.
A few weeks ago, back when she thought tide was turning against Trump, Haley said he would be judged harshly by history. Now she realized she got ahead of her skis and is trying to take it back. As I’ve written, she is a human chameleon. She thinks we’re too dumb to notice.
I've been plenty critical of Trump's handling of the coronavirus, but it's obnoxious to see people tweeting out "TrumpDepression" when they were the same ones loudly advocating shutdown orders and who accuse those talking of reopening the economy of being part of a death cult.
If they are using their own golf carts on wide open outdoor course with few other people, why would they require masks? Can somebody point me evidence that would be necessary?
CNN photojournalist
@abdallahcnn
got a shot of President Trump golfing today. He says the president is moving around the course in a golf cart alone but is golfing with three partners. None of the men are wearing masks.
I'm sure all the people questioning how Barr could have gone through the Mueller report in 48 hours are going to wait the requisite 2 weeks to comment once it comes out.
If you support Jews only when we are victims and not when we refuse to be victims, you aren’t a friend of Jews. You are a friend of those who seek to destroy us.
My new Gaza statement:
"It's time for Israel's friends to recognize that the current approach is causing an unacceptable level of civilian harm and does not appear likely to achieve the goal of ending the threat from Hamas. I urge Israel to immediately reconsider its approach."
The implication here is that if you're accused of something that happened 36 yrs ago, with no corroborating evidence, that you should never be allowed to work in any job ever again for the rest of your life.
I should note that I wrote my initial take on the GND based on the resolution, and it was still insane. So we shouldn’t let fact that AOC lied about the totally batshit FAQ to distract from the fact that the underlying legislative document is still an absurd joke.
I don’t want to hear any more crap about the need to censor speech to fight “misinformation” when the largest news organizations in the world uncritically spread terrorist propaganda that has such massive implications — and could yet get people killed.
This isn’t a media criticism story. Diplomatic facilities are under attack. Meetings between the heads of state have been canceled. People will be hurt as a result of this.
This is misleading. Keeping schools closed indefinitely has a devastating impact on children, and places an enormous burden on working parents. Data show very little risk to young kids, even if it isn't zero. Nobody signed up for closing schools until there's a vaccine.
I can't believe I live in a country where the nation's leading infectious disease expert has to explain to a Senator that we "really out to be very careful...when it comes to children."
Periodic reminder that there is no evidence corroborating that Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford ever met, that none of the people she claimed were at the party had any recollection of it, including her best friend at the time, and that many details of her story changed.
Reminder that Brett Kavanaugh *still* remains credibly accused of sexual assault on multiple accounts w/ corroborated details & this year the FBI admitted it never fully investigated.
Yet the court is letting him decide on whether to legalize forced birth in the US. No recusal.
Kathleen Sebelius violated the Hatch Act to campaign for Obama. She was found to have broken the law by the Office of Special Counsel, which referred the manner to WH for discipline and Obama did nothing and nobody gave a toss. The outrage over Pompeo is a joke.
There has been significant debate among conservatives regarding Big Tech censorship, with those such as myself fighting attempts to have government target Twitter and FB over bias. Thanks to actions taken by FB and Twitter today, my side is going to lose this battle. Badly.
How many times have we read in the past few months about Phildelphia War Bonds parade in 1918 that led to a massive explosion of flu? Example was repeteadly used to justify lockdowns.
I missed the part where Trump said people should take drugs that they mixed themselves. "The toxic ingredient they consumed was not the medication form of chloroquine, used to treat malaria in humans. Instead, it was an ingredient listed on a parasite treatment for fish."
👉Her husband is dead & she's in the ICU after ingesting chloroquine:

It isn't just number of cases, but the trajectory. Basically went from exponential growth to sudden flatlining with barely anything in between. This is inconsistent with any other country that has gotten over the hump and has instead seen much more gradual, extended leveling off.
1) Twitter can ban whoever they want.
2) Banning Trump is not helpful in preventing populist movement from becoming more alienated and extreme.
2) B/c Twitter didn’t wait until he was out off office, they’ll be hard pressed to explain why Ayotollah and other tyrants can tweet.
Recall that when a gunman entered Comet Pizza, he legit believed he was trying to save children from a sex ring. Right now, many of these rioters no doubt believe the conspiracies and think they are saving democracy. This is why Trump & his backers have been so irresponsible.
Staggering that Rush Limbaugh was able to do what he did -- speak into a microphone for 3 hours a day, five days a week, with few callers and almost no guests, and retain his influence for over 30 years. Hard to think of anybody close on right or left, inside or outside politics.
I tweeted in real time that this was the greatest thrown incomplete pass I've ever seen & I'm still stunned a day later. Mahomes is chased, runs a marathon, then falling from 30 yards out, he throws it sideways and nails the KC receiver (surrounded by 4 defenders) on the helmet.
A CNN explainer on flying safely claims that a 90% effective vaccine means that out of 1 million travelers, 100k can still get infected. This is ridiculously wrong and yet has been up for 2 days without correction
Jews are getting attacked in Brooklyn and the Forward is ready to explain to us why it isn't anti-semitic: "while the attacks are targeting Jews, it may be because black people identify Judaism as a form of almost hyper-whiteness'"
Julissa Gomez was a 1988 U.S. Olympic contender until a vault accident put her in a coma & left her a quadriplegic. She eventually died from her injuries at 18. People calling for Biles to "tough it out" haven't thought through the implications.
President Trump: "I told the Governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, that I disagree strongly with his decision to open certain facilities which are in violation of the Phase I guidelines...It's just too soon."
Full video here:
1) Yes, flu is really bad, which is why people should get flu shots.
2) Absurd to compare flu stats for an entire year to the first few weeks of coronavirus, which is multiplying rapidly and as of now has a higher death rate.
So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!
Trump's racist tweets, in addition to being awful in their own right, managed to throw a life raft to Dems who can now unify around condemning his comments.

Maybe just me, but “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering” sounds a bit different than “one day Nazis will just disappear.”
Trump compares his decision to keep quiet about the COVID pandemic despite knowing its danger to Churchill telling Londoners to be calm amid the Nazi bombing campaigns.
The current crisis is revealing what many critics feared in a potential Trump presidency. He simply has not shown an ability to break out of his typical antics, and treat the moment with the seriousness with which it deserves.
New: A number of 2020 Democrats are embracing mandatory “buybacks” of assault weapons as U.S. mass shootings pile up.

Following the Hannity interview, there is very little reason to doubt the veracity of the Washington Post story. Republicans should adjust their statements accordingly.
It is now impossible that this will resolve without one side of the political spectrum believing a grave injustice was done. The ramifications of this nomination will be felt in our politics for decades to come no matter what the outcome.
Gaetz says that he is mad at McCarthy for passing a bill that was supported by 126 Republicans and 209 Democrats, and so he is aiming to oust him by having ~6 Republicans vote with every Democrat.
It's hard to convey to younger conservatives who have become accustomed to Supreme Court victories what it was like for those of us to endure decades of disappointment to get to this point.
We don't honor the founders because they owned slaves, but because of their contributions to liberty and to the nation in spite of it. Confederate monuments memorialize people in the act of committing treason to expand slavery.
I’ve never thought this argument makes any sense. Why is owning, and in some cases raping slaves any better than fighting a war to maintain slavery? This shift to the founders is simply inevitable.
Former Obama officials and their media allies are attempting to rewrite history to pretend that tensions with Iran started when Trump withdrew from the nuke deal. As our editorial explains, this is fantasyland

I don’t have a problem with this. If somebody wants to dress their baby in a pride onesie why should it matter? We’re not talking about transitioning minors here. It’s just a shirt.
Trump’s defenders are trying to put Trump’s sore loserdom and baseless fraud charges in context of Russia probe. But hard to square that narrative with him claiming Cruz stole Iowa, which predated Russia stuff. Seems the guy is just a sore loser.
Good, now I will boycott

. I’m not a member of the NRA but I don’t want to support a company that would gratuitously parade its contempt for gun owners.
This cover was from May 18, 2009. Republicans picked up 63 seats in the House & six in the Senate the next year during the 2010 election cycle. Don’t buy into the obituary writing.
At this point a new president could come into office and do nothing other than to end the trade war, and it would amount to a massive economic stimulus that does not require Congressional action.
Whitehouse has unearthed a vast scheme whereby conservatives try to get conservative judges nominated and confirmed. Impressive. Who could have ever known this?
CDC summer camp guidance calls for masks outdoors for kids over 2 years old & also vaccinated adults. Only exceptions are eating, drinking, and swimming. Gonna be especially brutal with the humidity. Why are we torturing children for no good reason?
In a sane world, saying "radical Islamic terrorism" in context of an attack in which 3,000 Americans were massacred by Muslim terrorists should in no way be considered "controversial."
Trump in Shanksville talks of U.S. troops fighting “the menace of radical Islamic terrorism” — a controversial campaign catchphrase he didn’t use in last year’s 9/11 observance
They’ve made it to Grant — who freed the slave he inherited via marriage when he desperately could have used $ from a sale, who crushed the confederacy as general, and then crushed KKK as president. Detached from all reason.
