This from @philipaklein is exactly right. 2028 isn't guaranteed at all, because Trump is a generational icon. Replacing him isn't going to be easy. This Time, It’s the Populists Who Are Underestimating Trump

The idea that another candidate can win in 2028 with a purer version of Buchananism ignores the president’s actual appeal.

A fantastic @philipaklein piece – deliciously acerbic in imparting wisdom to those who confuse bombast with persuasion.

Also, the idea that Trump 2015 was basically Buchanan is a rewrite of history. He wanted to "Bomb the sh** out of ISIS," to go beyond waterboarding, and threatened that he would take action if Iran didn't negotiate away its nuclear ambitions.

For years, populists have blasted out of touch elitists for underestimating Trump. But now, it's the populist who are underestimating how important Trump's unique political skills, rather than a particular issue set, fueled his success.

Trade everybody!
Paul Skenes has reportedly been telling his Pirates teammates that he wants to play for the Yankees, per Randy Miller😳 “Trust me, he wants to play for the Yankees,” the Skenes teammate said. “I’ve heard him say it multiple times.” WOW. #Yankees

The population of NYC was lower in 1990 than it was in 1940 -- even as we had a baby boom and the population of the United States nearly doubled. The idea that @benshapiro just invented the concept of people leaving NYC for greener pastures is ahistorical nonsense.

People moving out of NYC, or not moving in, because they can't afford the lifestyle they want there has been the case for over a century.
@patrick_dixon @philipaklein @benshapiro This is basically the same as saying that someone who makes below X amount of dollars shouldn’t live in the NYC metro area.

If you watch the full context of what @benshapiro is saying around the 3:30 mark, he is attacking Mamdani's socialist policies and arguing deregulation would improve affordability. But that absent a policy change, moving out of NYC to a more affordable place is also an option

Incredible. Good thing nothing happened to the Jews of NYC under Dinkins! At least not to his kind of Jews...
It's fascinating to see the resemblances between the smear capaign against Mamdani and the one that took place 35 years ago against David Dinkins, the first black mayor of NYC. In both cases, right-wing figures, especially Zionist ones, falsely played the antisemitism and

Ellipses doing a hell of a lot of work there. What @marklevinshow actually said: "If you reject Judaism and Christianity and the brotherhood and the sisterhood of the two, not only are you rejecting our founding, you're rejecting our country."

My thoughts on the first 2 episodes of "Plurbius" are that it's compelling but also heavily reliant on the trust Gilligan has built with "Breaking Bad" & "Better Call Saul" insofar as we assume we're in the hands of a master and that the payoff will be worth it.

This assumes people would hold onto their homes for 50 yrs when median time for home ownership is 12. Because interest is front-loaded, owner would have only gained $6k in principle. Also, it assumes people would put monthly payment savings into S&P.
$500k home, 20% down, 6% mortgage: 30-yr = $2,398/mo 50-yr = $2,074/mo Invest $325 diff @ 10% (S&P avg): 10y: +$27K 20y: +$169K 30y: +$597K 50y: +$5.7 Million With the 50-yr, you pay $380K more interest yet end up many millions wealthier. Not including increased home value.

If subsidies were given directly to individuals to buy insurance, the money would still end up with the insurance companies. The actual problem is that Obamacare regulates insurance to be more expensive and then asks taxpayers to subsidize the added cost.
