Syria's interim president Al-Sharaa chose #SaudiArabia for his first international visit. That's perfect timing for my first commentary for @ecfr on how Europeans and #GCC states can support #Syria's political transition. Many thanks to @ECFRRoma @ECFRMena for this opportunity
📑 NEW @ecfr commentary by @EmilyTasinato: European & Gulf Arab states share common interests in #Syria – they should work closely together to ensure a stable transition

Finally my take on Erdogan’s #Gulf Demarche: 3 aspects highlight significance of 3-nation tour: 1-Regional aspect concerning #Gaza & #Syria 2-Institutional aspect concerning #Turkey-#GCC (as a bloc) ties 3-Bilateral aspect concerning specificalities in ties w/Kuwait, Oman, Qatar
#OPINION: A new Gulf-centered regional order is emerging — one in which #Turkiye is seeking to secure a prominent role by leveraging both its hard and soft power capabilities, writes @SinemCngz

As I explained to Gharagozlou for her piece @CNN, #sanctions on #Iran have become a "Robin Hood in reverse," taking from the middle class and poor to entrench the powerful. Thank you, @Lghara93 , for highlighting this critical issue at https://t.co/OJv5Yxjtrd

Asked about Israeli settler violence in the West Bank, Israeli FM Gideon Saar provides an embarrassing response and also makes clear that Israel will never reach a two state solution or allow for a Palestinian state. He is not a far right settler. He represents mainstream Israel

Lots of people have disagreed with me on this because of what it would signal to other Russian allies but I could see Putin giving up Assad to a tribunal in order to keep the bases.
Putin is hosting new Syrian president Ahmed al-Sharaa in the Kremlin. Sharaa ousted Russia's ally Bashar al-Assad from power last year but wants to "reset" relations with Moscow. He might even let Putin keep Russia's bases in Syria. But he wants Assad back to stand trial...

Really glad to see my two cents on how the threat perception of #Israel in the #Gulf has evolved Bouncing ideas off stellar scholars like @elhamfakhro and @LucianoZaccara with @amwajmedia is not just a pleasure, but such formats are far more needed. Many thanks to @EmilyTasinato

Araghchi on live TV: As it stands now, we have no cooperation with the IAEA. Any requests made by the IAEA should be reviewed by the SNSC.
Iran's FM in a live interview on state TV: The Cairo agreement (between Iran and IAEA) is now null and void. Negotiations with E3 are not on our agenda anymore.

Very concerning news from #Aleppo tonight, as #SDF fighters are engaged in heavy clashes with gov’t forces in Sheikh Maqsoud. Despite “removing” all heavy weaponry in the Spring, #SDF artillery & mortars have fired from the area = 1 Syria soldier killed. Serious developments.
After days of spiraling tensions & tit-for-tat drone/artillery/mortar strikes between the #SDF & #Syria's gov't, a secret #SDF tunnel tug from #Aleppo's NW outskirts into gov't areas was discovered today & destroyed with explosives. All but 1 crossing points are now closed.

The Saudi-Pakistan mutual defense pact is the start of other structured alternatives. The US will remain primary but it has to produce a clearer, more binding defense posture.
Ref to current security arrangements: “It’s difficult for the U.S. to deliver to us at this stage,” Mr. Al-Saif said, referring collectively to the Gulf states. “We need to come up with another alternative or we need to come together with Mr. Trump again & talk security, purely,
