🚨New paper with @DrSHLincoln and @DianaTamir out in @SchizRes! We looked at whether people with heightened schizotypy can accurately predict how others will feel moment to moment — and what that means for their social well-being. #Psychology #Schizotypy #Psychosis 👇

I created a psych post-bac list. Would a post-doc listserv be helpful? I'm already sending them to my own students, so if you'd like emails from me about post-doc opportunities I see, please put your email in this google sheet and I'll add you to it! https://t.co/0J2XTkGUqC

We currently look at many social cognitive skills when thinking about social functioning in SSDs. Emotion prediction may be another important one to add to the mix! Full paper: "Predicting emotions across schizotypy levels" Barrick, Tamir, & Lincoln (2025) https://t.co/48Khr71OkN

People with heightened schizotypy: 🔹Had less typical emotion experiences 🔹Were worse at recognizing others’ emotions 🔹Had trouble understanding their own emotions That means the data they use to make predictions is fuzzier.

These troubles with emotion prediction also partly explained why people with higher schizotypy had social difficulties. So why might people with heightened schizotypy struggle with emotion prediction?

We studied over 1,000 people across the schizotypy spectrum and found: 🔹Higher schizotypy → worse emotion prediction 🔹Worse emotion prediction → ⬆️ loneliness, ⬇️ social support & smaller networks

Every day we make small emotion predictions: “He’s stressed, so if I joke around he might get annoyed” “She’s in a good mood, so she might be receptive if I ask a favor” These predictions help us navigate the social world smoothly. But what happens if those predictions are off?
