Had a wonderful week at the CDT advanced characterisation of materials (CDT-ACM) summer school. Fantastic to see all the amazing work my colleagues are doing and I'm now bubbling with ideas for my own research. Huge thank you to the CDT staff for organising the trip!

Looking back on the amazing opportunity I had earlier this year, undertaking a three month placement at VerSoX Beamline at Diamond Light Source, working on XPS and NEXAFS of chiral-modified metal surfaces. I learned so much and can't thank everyone at B07 enough!

The PM started his speech yesterday by saying it was time to be 'honest' with the British people, and yet this tweet is all lies NONE of these are current Govt policies The PM is #gaslighting the nation
We will never impose unnecessary and heavy-handed measures on you, the British people. We will still meet our international commitments and hit Net Zero by 2050.

Ooh look at her, all this fancy equipment ooh I got to spend a week using ambient pressure XPS and XAS to study haemoglobin at @DiamondLightSou! I knew nothing going in so quite in the deep end, but it was a fantastic experience &🤞I get to go back for my own work some day soon!

Hey it's me! As seen here trying to remind everyone that violence against women isn't just some weirdo on the street, it might be someone you know, and that needs to be called out too #EnoughlsEnough
“If your friends are doing that, maybe ask yourself why you’re friends with them.” Violence against women and girls is never acceptable. We can all do something to challenge harassment when we see it. 💪 w/ @ukhomeoffice

In the first of a series of @Nature features, I looked at ethnic diversity within UK science – and the results were stark. This is not just an injustice, it’s bad for science, because diversity breeds better research. A🧵1/n

Data show that the representation of scientists from marginalized ethnicities dwindles at each stage of UK academia.

Woooh it me! Come watch me blather about how obsessed I am with some incredibly specific phase diagrams 😍
We are also very excited for the talks by our final pair of undergraduate speakers: Haldrian Iriawan (@haldrianiriawan) from @imperialcollege and Eleanor Teather (@EleanorTeather) from @unibirmingham. @TigerinSTEMM is looking forward to their #TigerCheminar talks: {4/7]

The mRNA vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) are kind of brilliant at a science level. I’ve had a few people in my real non-Twitter life ask me to explain how it works so I’m going to try my best here in this thread while I’m waiting for a patient to show.

Third thought: they don't say in the article but I wonder whether women/poc's ideas come out as unique from other women/poc, or if they're unique because the majority of ideas are coming from white men who are all coming up with the same stuff. I'm intrigued.
