I’ve the greatest respect for resident doctors & understand their grievances about years of underpayment. The Government did the right thing last year with their significant pay award. This time they need to ‘read the room’ as this is tone deaf

Proud that this began with nurse Scholars from @FNightingaleF (@fernandof1974) talking to @DawnButlerBrent and with @alisonleary1 advice, and Dawn’s tenacity on pursuing this since 2021. Nurse leadership and political advocacy is essential for patient safety #NursesDay2025.
Nurses are highly skilled and trusted professionals. Patients need to know they are genuinely being seen by a nurse. Now they will. Big win for campaigners @theRCN @TheQNI @unisontheunion, @DawnButlerBrent and @DailyMirror’s fight against this👇🏻.

It was very good to join the new Scholars and to urge them to use their year to think positively about embracing politics! Nursing and midwifery needs politically astute leaders who can advocate and influence the issues that matter to the professions and patients #leadership.

Really enjoyed my first visit to Northern Ireland to spend the day with @FNightingaleF NI Directors programme participants. Some great conversations about politics and influencing for nursing, midwifery and patients. I learnt a lot from them and from fab Chief Nurse @McilgormM.
