Quebec’s #EmergencyPhysicians deserve support—not punishment. Bill 2 targets physicians instead of fixing the real problems in #EmergencyCare. We stand with Quebec’s #EmergencyMedicine community and the patients they serve. 📄Read our full statement: https://t.co/3QeMkwRY9F

Thousands of Canadians wait in crowded #EmergencyDepartments every day — and for some, those delays are deadly. CAEP members Drs. Bigham, Herman, Kapur & Worrall co-authored this article, calling for urgent system reform. 📖 Read more: https://t.co/UkLST9bu8R

Respectfully, research has shown over and over and over that adding urgent care centers will NOT help emergency department wait times. We have been advocating around emergency department crowding for decades @CAEP_Docs and we know adding urgent care centers is not the solution.
1 in 13 Canadians going to ER get FED UP with the wait time and LEAVE before being seen …even though many have URGENT problems Their risk of hospitalization & death is 14% higher over the next week. https://t.co/FBdgbI560x

Our department also lost physician hours several months ago, despite climbing patient numbers and complexity. We saw an immediate increase in wait times, which we know is not good for patient outcomes. This is so short sighted and will result in harm to Ontarians. @CAEP_Docs
On the backdrop of increasing ED wait times we have completely inept decisions by MOH @fordnation & @SylviaJonesMPP cutting MD hrs at St. Michael's Hospital @UnityHealthTO & other hospitals Let's dig in 🧵 1/ @HumanFact0rz @davidcarr333 @raghu_venugopal

I didn’t expect The Pitt to hit me like it did. As an ER doc, so much of what we go through has always felt impossible to explain—to friends, to partners, to family. But this show… this show finally helped them see us. Really see us. (Quick thought)⬇️

nine episodes into The Pitt and my main takeaway right now is that anyone who works in a hospital should be paid approximately $400-500 million dollars per day

Closing supervised consumption sites puts more lives at risk. * SCS prevent overdoses - 1,800+ reversed in Toronto in 2022 * Reduce #ER burden - hospitals are already in crisis * Improve community safety - 67% fewer deaths near SCS Read our statement: https://t.co/3QeMkwRY9F

Emergency medicine is a lifestyle, not just a job. You’ll see the sickest patients, the worst luck, and the darkest corners of humanity—& still be expected to smile, move fast, and get it right every time. A thread on what they don’t tell you about EM. 🧵

Not really sure how this is "confidential" or frankly a surprise. Anyone following health care knows our ERs are in crisis.... But Ontario's ER wait times have gotten worse in the past three years, confidential report shows https://t.co/IUxRh1VNPz via @torontostar
thestar.com
According to an internal provincial report, patients visiting Ontario ERs in the past three years waited longer than they did in the previous 13 years.

Our thoughts are with our colleagues at the QEII in Halifax. Violence has no place in the Emergency Department. Read CAEP’s position statement on violence in the ED and the urgent need for action: https://t.co/3khh5OiANH

Tough weekend of shifts with ED wait times routinely >8-10 hours. Lost count of how many times I've had to respond with: "I would be upset in your shoes too. Our team is working hard tonight and doing our best, now I'd like to focus on how I can best help you."

My favourite Murray Sinclair quote: “The truth will set you free. But first it will piss you off”.
#MurraySinclair lived a life of love, justice, purpose and meaning. He led Canada through a process of truth and reconciliation, with great wisdom and power. Thanks to him we can no longer see our past, present and future in the same way. As a great poet put it “he left the

After a local #vaccination clinic was cancelled due to #OHIP refusing to reimburse those administering the shots, Kingstonist spoke with the #YGK doctor involved, our MPP, and two experts - including a former lawyer for OHIP. #onpoli What we learned here:

(Kingston, Ontario) Not only is OHIP demanding a local doctor pay back what she was reimbursed for running numerous vaccination clinics at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the provincial...

It's time once again to remind everyone that emergency department (ED) crowding is not due to low acuity visits. ED crowding is due to hospital crowding and the inability to move admitted patients to the floors. Emergency Physicians can handle busy. It's crowding that kills.
