@ShaunLintern @wesstreeting @cazjwheeler This is extraordinary from a health sec. Threatening to wilfully sabotage care provision unless doctors stop exercising their lawful right to strike. From a labour government. No words.

Governments have held back doctors getting into training buy not increasing training numbers for years. Now, its not all @wesstreeting's fault but he can fix it. What he said today isn't the answer. He is hurting patients by holding back the training of the doctors they need.

Doctors are underpaid & face unreasonable difficulties to become the consultants and GPs we need Govt acknowledge both, enter talks with Drs After >2 months of talks, no proposal to show from Govt Drs frustrated pace too slow, call for action Govt threat to go even slower …
Today @wesstreeting has put junior doctors on notice that taxpayers’ cash will not fund more training posts if they continue to strike, in interview with Sunday Times @cazjwheeler READ:

@Nickatralala @wesstreeting You are correct it smacks of him having his private agenda to me. He is blocking Doctors employment so they are having to go somewhere else to become a Doctor. Limiting to a 1000 Doctors when 20,000 more are almost there is shocking. He is the worse HS we have had.

Holding doctors’ jobs ransom whilst patients can’t access doctors and waiting lists soar, is a disgraceful position for a health secretary to adopt. Wes is right, strikes have a cost. And at £250m a pop, he’d be better off tabling a credible offer that addresses pay and jobs.🤷🏻♂️
Wes Streeting, from the party of organised labour, threatens workers that if they go out on strike over pay he'll cancel their essential training. Labour, on the side of working people until they stand up for themselves, & then its sneers & threats.

While the NHS cries out for more doctors, Wes Streeting threatens job cuts for resident doctors. Everyone agrees we need more staff — not fewer. But he’s acting like he doesn’t know what he’s doing. He would rather strikes that cost money rather than using that to train drs.
Wes Streeting would rather spend £250 million covering the cost of strikes than take real action to get unemployed doctors back to work. Thousands of doctors are sitting at home unable to progress because of government caps on speciality training places, the only route to

No wonder so many doctors are off to Australia. Problem is, for the patients that are left, you don't get to see a Dr. Your cancer takes longer to diagnose, you are in pain, you can't see your GP @wesstreeting could fix this but he isn’t As a patient, ask what you really want
To all unemployed doctors in England Forget @NHS Come to Australia where you will be appreciated and celebrated We have GP jobs in our practice in the west of Melbourne Plenty of jobs in all specialties all over Australia We also have a thing called sunshine ☀️ You’ll love it

Time for facts, not spin The REAL reason why resident doctors are striking: 1) Doctors are UNEMPLOYED 5000 drs applied for just 350 A&E jobs -similar with EVERY specialty Yet they are funding for nurses/physios etc without a medical degree to replace drs in the same role 🧵

This article is absolutely spot on @wesstreeting can no longer blame the Tories for the state of the NHS and his poor leadership fully justify this criticism 👇 The recurrent bad decisions are starting to look intentional…. 🤷♂️
For the NHS, it’s another escalation in a destructive cycle brought about by an inexperienced health secretary, advised by people who want us to make the same mistakes they made 20 years ago. It’s time for a change.

More doctor replacement going on here. These tests are likely to check for cancer or other serious conditions. They should be done by a doctor. Why are we allowing second rate care on this way? Patients deserve better and the government needs to train specialist doctors!
Full GI list autonomously performed by ACP. Are patients aware these procedures are done by ACPs? While gastro trainees are fighting for/ coming on their days off/ staying OOH to be able to train? @BMAResidents @fletchjack @TheBMA

Industrial relations aren’t a game. If you don’t hear and address workers’ grievances, it’s like a pot of boiling water: you can only keep the lid clamped down for so long. Stop fighting the caring professions and start listening when we tell you what’s going wrong.
The next Conservative Government will ban doctors from going on strike - just like we do for the army and police.

Quoting myself due to the media rhetoric that ‘majority of Drs do not support strikes’, I literally asked my Northern colleagues and they were overwhelmingly in support, the same for my co- RDC members. Stop the false rhetoric that @BMAResidents is not representing doctors
@DHSCgovuk @wesstreeting No one wants to strike without cause, but you’re not willing to make meaningful steps towards restoring pay + paltry 1000 jobs is a factor of 10 too small RE bottlenecks. On asking members they urged me to vote against negotiations + for strike action- we have to recognise this

Another day with doctors out of work and more than 100 ACP jobs on the NHS website. Doctors are being actively substituted for lesser trained ACP's. We could fill every job with a qualified doctor who is out of work. Patients should know who they are seeing #AskForADoctor

We voted to strike over pay, so expect us to strike until you’re ready to negotiate our pay
Resident doctors strikes are completely unnecessary and irresponsible. My team and I have been talking to the BMA in good faith and are prepared to negotiate on jobs and conditions. They’ve had a 28.9% pay rise. We can’t go further now. But we can address jobs and conditions👇🏻

Doctors are being kept unemployed while patients face long waits in A&E and for surgery. The Government has imposed an artificial cap on speciality training numbers; blocking doctors from becoming your GP or your Consultant. This year alone there were 20,000 more applications
