Why we need to keep/grow our forex reserves. .
@mcm1777 They are more of a confidence booster (and a very expensive one while at that). Ideally, the market should meet the dollar requirements for imports, and the exchange rate should adjust to reflect the balance of payment outcomes. The CBK can step into the market to smoothen.

Wrong conclusion. the money isn't under the mattress. When the CBK buys dollars, they use Kenya shillings and the same are transferred to the banking system. The offset of the forex reserves is Kenya shilling deposits. Those become deposits in the banking sector, which can.
It's like your father boasting of millions of dollars under the family mattress yet your youngest sibling doesn't have vaccines, your sister's business is retrenching, and your mom's healthcare insurance can't cover medical bills.

You need to disaggragate the economies where we largely import from mostly from China, India and middle East (Oil, household consumers, machinery and capital goods, industrial chemicals etc) to make a better analysis. Most of those currencies are either pegged to the dollar or.
@Dicksonmagecha The public debt management office is just saving its own skin. but this is affecting importers who don't necessarily import from the USA. Don't look at where the KES would have been, look at where it is against the Euro, GBP, JPY. Net exporting economies benefit from.

Point 6- some erroneous conclusions here. The 'stabilisation' as you call it has been occasioned by FX reserves building activities. Hence, if they weren't undertaking this- the KES would be stronger. The point on debt on this is wrong as the stronger KES against the dollar would.
The Illusion of a Stable USD/KES and Its Impact on the Kenyan Economy. Since August 2024, the USD/KES exchange rate has hovered around 129.5, occasionally fluctuating slightly between 127 and 130. This narrow band of movement has created a perception of currency stability in the.

". If we take a look at TD Cowen’s cost breakdown (which overestimates cost of almost every step), just about 10 to 15% of the xFactory value of a iPhone 16 goes to a Chinese employer. This also does not include Apple’s own IP value that gets included in

Seems the only way to avoid high tariffs is to improve the trade balance with the USA. Crude method, but ingenious all the same. ION, looks like a great opportunity to attract investment for countries left in the 10% baseline (especially where the US runs a trade surplus or a.
This guy cracked the tariff formula:.@orthonormalist . It’s simply the nation’s trade deficit with us divided by the nation’s exports to us. Yes. Really. Vietnam: Exports 136.6, Imports 13.1.Deficit = 123.5. 123.5/136.6 = 90%

There is a bit of a maturity cliff in fiscal year Q4 (April-June) when we had issued a lot of two-year bonds in 2023. Probably, they anticipate to let those maturities roll-off havijg borrowed in advance and avoid rolling-over large principal amounts. The tax collection is also.
Therefore, in six months, the government has borrowed more from the domestic market than what is approved for the full year. Under what legal authority is the government continuing to borrow domestically, having exhausted the limit imposed by parliament?.

The crowding out effect by government borrowing was the problem. Now that deficits have dropped by a significant percentage to 4.3% of GDP from 8% (ideal target still some ways to go at 3% of GDP), interest rates will naturally drop as the supply of bonds by the state reduces and.
@DavidNdii @JimnahMbaru @DavidNdii So, what is the justification for the high interest rates given that the inflation excuse is no longer there?.
